Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Hi, I was diagnosed with gastritis a few days ago. I had my gall bladder out late March and was doing fine for about a week then all h*ll broke loose. Apparently when the surgeon was doing the surgery he noticed that my gall bladder had attached itself to my stomach, this is why I now have the gastritis due to the inflammation. My symptoms of gastiris are: fatigue/exhauastion about 30 minutes after eating along with irritability, slight burning sensation, belching. When it was at its worst state the pain was incredible. Has anyone else experienced the fatigue/exhuaustion, irritability sytmptoms with their gastritis? They are treating it with Protonix which took the pain away almost immediately but I'm still experiencing the other symptoms.

Yes fatigue exhaustion is all part of it . I was diagnosed 2 months ago but have been suffering for 6 months very stressful and frustrating condition I have yet to get a handle on it try to manage your stress and diet is everything if you can even eat at all .... poor nutrition will just lead to weight loss exhaustion and even more stress the condition steamrolled me as I also have gerd which further limits my diet I basically have fallen apart after bladder procedure last June (urinary not gall ) good luck to you

I had severe gastritis six years ago, after a gall bladder surgery. I was hospitalized for several weeks, and out of work for two months. I have had two episodes since then....another hospital stay and one that started a week ago. I started on Zegerid and the reflux has improved, but I have no appetite. Nothing sounds good or tastes good. It is terrible. This episode has brought on extreme anxiety and depression. Anyone have words of advice?

Joanieyust, I'm sorry you are going thru all of this. Hopefully the Zegerid will improve all symptoms and you will get your appetite back. I know it's easier said than done, but try to find something that might help reduce your anxiety and depression, from what I'm reading and experiencing myself, the anxiety can make the gastritis worse. SJH, do you take a good multivitamin? I had fatigue and exhaustion in the beginning of this, too. I think it was mostly a lack of nutrients for me since I could barely eat. I started on a multivitamin and it helped my energy levels immensely.

I do take vitamins, they found that I'm deficient in B12, that is another sign of possible H Pylori infection.....my fatigue is bad when the gastritis flares up....I am eating barely enough to survive at this point.

What foods are you eating? I know it's hard to do but you really have to force yourself to eat. In the beginning, I felt like I spent all of my time eating. Just constantly munching on food. Does our multivitamin have b12? Mine has 833% because I was worried my medicine would deplete my b12. Does yours have b12? Also, nutritional yeast has excellent b12 levels and is very tasty on food! Also safe for the tummy :)

My dr. has me on a separate B12 due to the B12 deficiency. I have allergies too which are hindering the food choices as I have to follow a low histamine diet as well. Today I had a pear and that threw me into a gastritis attack :( I explained to my dr. that currently, I can barely eat. I had some grapes, a few egg yolks and a pear today, not a lot of food but my stomach was in misery after the pear for some reason. They did the breath test for HP infection however I explained to them that you are supposed to be off PPI's for 2 weeks prior to this test otherwise you can get false negative so we will see. At this point, I'm thinking I need to give my stomach a 24 hour grace period from food and see if it will play nice tomorrow.

I just had an idea! Consuming local honey is meant to lower allergies as well. I use it frequently on my foods and in my oatmeal. It has never hurt my stomach at all and it's very tasty! I also never did the breaks from food because not eating made my stomach burn so bad. Have you tried avocado or almonds? They're both very nutritional and high in calories!

I have been using some local honey, love it! I currently can't do avocados or almonds due to the histamine levels in both, but I love both of them and can't wait to get them back on board!! Thanks so much for all your ideas, it helps knowing I'm not going down this road alone!

Research "Bile Reflux" at the Mayo Clinic's website. Gastritis is a known side effect of Gallbladder surgery.
