Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

I went over to my father in laws house to help him to help him with some paperwork. He's 89:) Well he made me a cup of very strong brewed coffee and I didn't want to hurt his feelings and I drank it. By the time I left 2 hours later, my gastritis pain was up to almost a 10/10. It hurt me to sit in the car:( My gastritis is in my upper stomach from bile reflux.
I was one town away and had to pick up something at the store on my way home.
I had just read in a magazine that chewing gum can help with acid reflux and heartburn. I grabbed a pack of Extra- Bubble Gum flavor gum and started chewing like mad. My pain went down to a zero within 5 minutes! That's never happened before! Usually it takes me a week to recover from 1 cup of brewed coffee and get my pain back down to a 0/10.
All I can figure is it makes me have more spit in my mouth, which I then swallow. Saliva is slimy so it must be coating my sore spots in my stomach and stopping the pain.
It was the brand of gum called Extra and it was pink bubblegum. I imagine that the mint and fruit gums wouldn't work and would make the pain worse. Please give it a try. I've had this gastritis going on 2+ years and no prescription or herb has ever taken the pain away like this before.

Thanks for the information. I am surprised since everything regarding GERD suggests gum is bad, but if it can help someone with gastritis, all the more reason to post. Happy you are feeling better and again great information!
