Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
For lunch I usually make homemade soup with parsley or cilantro added, and maybe a little salt and pepper. I cut up peeled potatoes and carrots, and sometimes add canned peas or canned green beans and a little macaroni. I just started adding maybe 2 Tbsp. tomato sauce, and so far, so good. Sometimes I'm okay with hotdishes containing hamburger, cream of mushroom or chicken soup, and macaroni. The soups are a little 'iffy,' though.
For supper, I often have a fried (very lean) hamburger and enjoy it on toast, with a little ketchup and mustard--not much. Maybe a little mayo or lettuce. I sometimes have baked chicken or baked fish. I love baked potatoes (don't eat the skins, of course), or mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes. Canned veggies, usually, or cooked carrots.
I like soft biscuits and crackers with little or no spice. Sometimes just white bread and butter is a good snack.
And of course, I drink water or ginger or chamomile or slippery elm tea all day long. I have the aloe juice/aloe gel in water twice a day.
I can handle plain cookies, such as sugar cookies, and rarely, something like chocolate chip--but I only eat a small part of a cookie at a time. I sometimes follow that with a tablespoon or so of cottage cheese or yogurt. Yogurt with banana slices make a good dessert, as does canned pears or peaches, or applesauce.
Hope this helps a bit!
I'm ok with Mcvities divestives though I struggled in the early stages. I aslo eat a GF tea buscuit and real butter shortbreads made with cornflour.
Av breakfast is fresh fruit with yoghurt, LSA and maybe some muesli and now I enjoy a cup of tea. I sometimes have a digestive with the tea or maybe some oat toast. I seem to struggle with rolled oats just now but thats due to the IBS not the gastritis.
For morning and arvo tea I usually have a choice of the following: potato that I could in its jacket in the microwave and eat with butter, boiled egg and a glass of LF milk, a fruit smoothy with yoghurt and milk, a piece of home made cake and tea (regular or green).
Lunch might be a cheese grill or pasta with vegies and basil and cheese or home made soup.
Dinner might be a chicken or vegie stir fry or home made vegie curry and rice or a fritatta.
I spice with mixed herbs (Italian), corriander (cilantro), ginger and turmeric along with basil.
Please ask any more questions you need.
Oh and raven by biscuits we(in Australia and UK) mean cookies. Your biscuits should be our scones and they shouldn't be greasy so I'm curious as to what your biscuits are now. I know in Canada they are our scones.
I love learning about foods in other countries,

Also, a soft tortilla with some cut-up avocado, grated cheese, and maybe some scrambled eggs is a quick meal.
Lunch is usually sweet potato & low fat cottage cheese, or lately been having homemade & blended chicken & veg soup made with coconut cream. Occasionally a turkey sandwich or scrambled eggs.
Tea is sometimes sweet potato & cottage cheese again (on bad days). Sometimes chicken or salmon with veg (I can handle potato, carrots, spinach, parsnips, avocado, cabbage, celery).
Snacks are bananas or natural yoghurt & manuka honey. Occasionally I have Waitrose organic Oaten biscuits spread with some manuka honey - expensive, but 1 or 2 go down ok - anymore then I suffer.
Drinks are water, slippery elm tea or my herbal tea from my herbalist.
This diet is such a far cry from I used to eat. In some ways I've never been so healthy! The thing I miss most is tomatoes I think- I loved my pasta sauces!
Bananas are the only fruit I can handle - oh occasionally have a few well chewed raisins or dates. Dried Apricots were a disaster for me - unbelievable pain.
At Christmas I managed some vanilla cheesecake & a little vanilla ice cream.
Occasionally I have Semolina or a plain scone.
Acid, certain fibre & sugar seem to upset me most. I don't get reflux - just an aching pain or burning & stinging in my abdomen.
I can't handle jam, choc, coffee, tea, tomatoes, beans, peas, sweetcorn, apples, oranges, apricots, sweets, hard food like nuts, crackers or rice cakes or breadsticks. Too much bread or pastry is not good for me.
I might give pasta another try soon.
Why would rice upset me so much? Even rice pudding! I miss rice!
Has anyone found a good substitute for spaghetti sauce? I sometimes put a little olive oil and seasonings on pasta, but it's nothing like the spaghetti sauces I so love(d)!
I can handle rice, and feel so sorry for those who can't. Yes, it does seem strange not to be able to handle rice, as rice should be easily digestible.
I couldn't eat rice for nearly 6 months and it made no sense to me. I'm ok now and use basmati, which may be white but is a whole grain rice just like brown.(cooks quicker and tastes better)
I sometimes cook pasta with vegies then toss it all in a little olive oil and Italian herbs and sprinkle with cheese. Very tasty. You could also add some tuna or salmon for protein and extra flavour.
I have adapted my meat pasta sauce greatly. I cook beetroot and pumkin together, drain and puree. I add this to 'my bolognese' sauce and it gives moisture, colour and sweetness to the sauce. I can now handle wine so today I'm making a batch and adding a splash of red wine. Next time I hope to have garlic or onion in the mix!
I sometimes make a pasta sauce using cream and basil now that I can manage cream.
I haven't tried wheat bread--been too scared, I guess. I stick to white bread and white biscuits.
Yes--I echo the 'thanks' to everyone who posted ideas here. We are not in this alone!
