Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
During a weaning-off period you are likely to suffer acid rebound which can last 3 weeks, or it can last indefinitely if the replacement dose of Zantac is simply not sufficient to suppress your stomach acid even "if you never took Prilosec in the first place".
I only found stability and control after shifting to combination of Zantac and PepZin GI. And keeping to the usual protocols.
You're taking your PPI & Zantac the wrong way round.
Try the ppi in the morning & zantac at night.
PPI needs food & acid to be activated whereas zantac does not - so it works better than ppi's overnight for preventing nocturnal acid breakthrough.
I will say though that Nobody has a good word to say about Prilosec. Much better ppi's out there,
