Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Namely, in order of severity:
Pepzin GI (Dr's Best)
Ulcetrol (NOW Foods)
Gastromend HP (don't remember)
These can all be gotten on Amazon. If you're in a pretty bad way I'd start with the strongest - Gastromend - and observe what happens.
Pepzin GI is the most harmless and pure of them all - it is a Japanese medicine which went mainstream in the 90s, and it increases stomach healing speed by 300%.
I was in a downward spiral until I found these components. They are worth the money. I am no marketing shill. They pretty much saved me.
Zinc gets attached by carnosine to the stomach walls, neutralizes free radicals and other bad stuff, and encourages healthy mucous secretions. There are studies on this.
It doesn't work immediately but I started noticing minor improvement on day 2. Then it became better, slowly, and I got stuck at a plateau until I started nuking my stomach with Gastromend HP, which contains mastic gum and DGL alongside with Pepzin GI.
Now I mostly just use the pure Pepzin GI again. Every day. Even if I mess up and eat too much "wrong", what before would bloat me up for a week, now takes 2 days. The 300% healing rate is literally true.
I have tried Carafate in the past but it came with it's own set of uncomfortable side effects that I couldn't take. I've tried other herbal remedies with no relief. I took medication for nausea in the beginning but I managed to get the nausea under control with diet and now it only happens occasionally. I'm trying Glutamine now. It was suggested for me by my GI doctor for what he thought might be leaky gut syndrome....maybe the source of all my food intolerances. I'm not up to a large enough amount yet to know if it will help with anything. I always have to start out very slow on supplements or medications.
I sometimes wonder if my pain is coming from too little stomach acid but my doctors always want to up my dosage of Aciphex instead of lower it. I tried to get of the PPIs with supplements from a Naturopathic doctor but after 10 days I couldn't take it anymore and went back on them. I think the damage is done and I'm doomed to forever using them.
Andy- there may be something in your diet causing the nausea. Maybe you should think about eliminating gluten, dairy, fructose, red meat, raw veggies and caffeine to see if you notice any difference. I know that helped me get rid of the nausea.
Sorry you find yourself on this horrid merry go round. Most of what Poorlygirl said I have tried with success. If you can handle it peppermint tea is also good for nausea. I was diagnosed with gastritis back in 2010 and IBS in 2011.
I can tell you at some point a normal life can return to you. I also added digestive enzymes and St. John's wort about 10 months ago and I've not looked back. It is slow process and my weight has now come back and I feel much stronger through all of these struggles. While I only have pain if a new ingredient doesn't work out I still remain vigilant with the foods I eat. I can now eat onion, garlic and tomatoes just to name a few. It takes time and hard work but I hope you get there too.
