Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Every day??

Do you guys get symptoms of gastritis or IBS every day of your life? Or so it seems.

No matter what I do I have reminders of this illness every day in some form. It never stops.

And how many of you have days where you just can't eat? Usually sometime during the day I find I can nibble on something. But some days I'm just afraid to eat. I know it's not good to have an empty stomach so what do you do?? Maybe fasting is the better way to do once in awhile. Please tell me what to do!

I used to have symptoms every day but now I have been feeling good for one week. In any cases I think it is good to eat every day. Fasting only slows down your metabolism, makes you loose your muscles, and weakens you. You need material to repair your body. For the bad days I eat mashed potatoes a lot with chicken breast and steamed vegetables. Oatmeal and cooked banana for breakfast. Fresh coconut water for a snack.

Thank you Ines6375. I can always count on you for good advice. I've been sick for so long that I don't remember what a good day is like. I am down to 85 lbs and just don't have much appetite. Other days I can kind of pick all day. That messes up the schedule for Carafate. But, I've gotten to the point that I don't care. I'll take it when I can and eat when I can. If I only take the stuff once a day.. so be it. I am hoping to hear about my test today or tomorrow. Maybe we can piece this all together. I'm always looking to eliminate at least one problem. So far all my illnesses are incurable. Bummer.

Even on very bad days you need nutrition to live, to heal....
Can you manage any of the ensure type drinks? Ensure, Boost, any of those? 4 a day would give you better nutrition than picking at other foods and coat your stomach.
For those who can eat more readily of course whole food is better but where you appear to be in crisis, anything you can get down is good.

re: Carafate, not sure about others but it really killed my appetite and did me no good at all...

Nina I drink one Ensure every day. Didn't know that more would be better. They are way too expensive tho'. Thinking about getting a protein supplement from my pharmacist. Thanks again

Hi.. I am desperately trying to keep my weight on. When I started all this over a year ago I was 116#. I dropped to 108. then slowly I've clawed my way back up and am hovering at 113#. I'm 55 years old, 5 ft 2.25 with a small frame. . I'm so afraid to get down as if I get sick then I may drop some I feel kind of weak. I have not gotten the particulars from my endoscopy other than erosive gastritis and reflux esophagitis but but this really suckS! I am eating semi pretty bland and try to add in fats that are healthy such as avocado and peanutbutter. I eat 5 times per day as much as I can. I have lost muscle mass due to an illness and am trying to get back some..
