Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

esophogeal spams

I had a little visit to the e/r today. Turned out to be esophageal spasms. Are these things related to the gastritis and GERD? Can anyone tell me anything about this??

It definitely can be caused from Gerd and Gastritis, however I would call your doctor and tell him about this, and also ask for a endoscopy if it's been awhile. We all have to be careful that it doesn't turn into Barrett's Esophagus. Hugs GB

I agree with grammy.. Spasms mean the esophagus is pretty annoyed.

Get a scope if you havent had one done for a while. It is definitely a symptom of a very inflammed esophagus. That is a characterisitc of GERD moreso.

Thanks. I just had my scope a couple months ago, which is where I was dx with gastritis. Then they did an Esophageal Manometry and a PH test. Gonna have an abdominal ultrasound next month. So I'm pretty well covered with the tests. Do not have a gallbladder.
