My upper endoscopy went like cake. They sedated me and it was over before I knew what happened. And they didn't even find anything, so the nurse announced that I'm healthy and can eat whatever I want!

Later the gastroenterologist told me I most likely have visceral hypersensitivity, so that everything looks well in there, but my nerve endings are damaged. I had to keep a very strict diet for many months after and keep taking meds. That was September 2014, and things really improved since.

I've had two endoscopies without sedation. You'll be ok, it only lasts about 2 minutes and doesn't hurt, just rather unpleasant. I think I preferred it to the colonoscopy :p

I've had 5 now. I was asleep each time. Thought they were easy to get through. And your doctor should have all the info you need when your done.

Yeah I've had 2 without sedation. Just a numbing throat spray.

A bit of discomfort with the first because I was scared & hyperventilating. Also my stomach & duodenum was so badly inflamed that he could barely ram the endoscope down there. Some minor discomfort & reflux for couple of days afterwards.

Second was absolutely fine. Obviously I was much more relaxed because I knew what to expect. I just focused my vision on a single point & concentrated on breathing slowly & calmly. Also my innards were less inflamed this time - so less discomfort. I was fine afterwards.

Had mine 3 weeks ago and was asleep for it. Glad I was: they found esophagitis, gastritis, a stomach ulcer, and duodenitis and took biopsies. At least I had finally gotten an answer to why I had been feeling so crappy.
