I used to suffer from gastritis (healed only recently). I was on amoxicillin for pneumonia recently. I took it daily, and took Nexium daily too. I was okay, no adverse reaction to the antibiotic. You are right to be cautious on antibiotics, as it is know to irritate the stomach, so don't take it on an empty stomach.

actually, the doctor is NOT supposed to guess if you have h. pylori or not. if you have an endoscopy done, the doctor would have taken a tissue sample and lab test it for h. pylori. so maybe you should call the doctor and ask him if such a test been done and if it turned out positive. He should know if the test has been done. it is routine in my country that when an endoscopy is done, tissue samples will be taken to test for h. pylori.
If you are not sure, you can do another less invasive test called the "Urea Breath analyser" test. It is very easy, you just drink a gassy drink and breathe into a test-tube.

Sometimes doctors do deserve a stronger voice of protest so that they don't dismiss us so easily. Good for you to insist.

I couldn't believe this guy, I asked him "so you're saying that it is actually impossible to have gastritis after being treated with nexium?" and his answer was a blunt "yes."

I did have biopsies taken when i had my endoscopy and the doctor then told me that it was clear, there was no pylori. thats why i think this guy was just reaching for anything that would get me out of his office

Doctor are human and make mistakes. Some are not very knowledgeable, and you may need to see more than one. One doc actually told me I might have cancer, without even seeing my chart and test results. I knew that I should walk out right then. I saw 4 doctors before I was comfortable with my diagnosis and treatment. It turned out that I have visceral hypersensitivity brought on by anxiety, and I possibly used to have gastritis, which went away and left me with nerve damage.

In a similar vein, no doctor should put up with being yelled at and I'm shocked he didn't simply throw you out of his office. Find someone new and show some respect. You might be making the problem worse than it is. Nobody will give you quality help if you're rude and diffucult.

It may sound harsh, but it's for your own benefit.

I actually got healed with a combination of I) PPI (Nexium) ii) controlled diet iii) managed stress.

So Nexium does heal... but it can be over a long time. In the past, I was on only Nexium 20mg 2 times a day. And it did not make me feel better. So the doctor increased it to 40mg, 2 times a day. It was considered a bit strong, but I choose to trust that doctor. After 3 months of Nexium 40 mg 2 times a day, my conditions were so much better. So Nexium does heal. What is also important is to manage my stress levels.

As for the h. pylori treatment, you have to consider this very carefully. if you think that the treatment is not called for - ie you actually DO NOT have the bacteria but the doctor is just guessing, then there is no need to take the anti-botics. But like I said, you can do the "Urea Breath test" to satisfy yourself if you indeed have the h. pylori.

I would also agree with Toomuchpo that you need to seek another opinion from a doctor that you can talk to. Enlist the help of the doctor to help you to cure. Use them, not fight them.

As far as showing respect to the doctor goes.. around here the health care is simply awful. i will not show respect to some doctor who treats me like a secondary citizen. doctors are not above us, and they are not high class citizens.

my brother had to actually have his heart stop, before these idiots finally sent him to the city for a pacemaker. the doctors in my area told him he was fine and could go back to work. meanwhile he was fainting at least 3 or 4 times a weak.

when the doctor in the city looked at his paper work he was appalled that they would not have sent him right aways. his paper work showed major heart problems and heart block.

that's an idea of the doctors in this area. and this doctor in particular dismissed everything i said, and didn't even want to bother. and voila...as soon as i got a little aggressive and told him it wasn't acceptable..boom..he had another solution.

sunny island..i too am on nexium 40mg twice a day. i have seen a lot of healing but am still not anywhere close to being able to eat a normal diet or living a normal life. I am doing these antibiotics now, i figure its worth a shot. i think if they dont work im just going to give up and spend the next year healing

go to the city then, don't waste any more of your time. if that's the case I wouldn't trust what I hear even if I squeezed it out, they might just make up stuff to get you out of there. Your health is worth it.

Stomach conditions are very difficult to diagnose and just as hard to treat. It's not your oridinary walk-in clinic complaint, here's a cream, off you go. It was also my experience that doctors have no idea what's going on, even the doctor I saw seeing for 15 years. Getting all wound up and forcing them to act though is useless. If the knowledge is not there, you won't get anything good out of it anyway. Just find a good doctor, even if it's out of your way.

Doctor shouldn't have said it's all in your head. When they say that they indicate you aren't worth their time. Be that as it may your stomach still hurts and what would he suggest you do next? He needs to be pinned down on that until he gives you some direction since you will be expected to pay him before you leave. I'd like to know why the available doctors have to be so lousy that we have to go to the city to find a decent one?

John! Your doctor is an idiot. Nexium doesn't heal anything. It merely suppresses stomach acid to let the stomach heal faster.

What actually speeds up the healing of stomach lining is PepZin GI. Look up medical studies, it's a miracle supplement invented in Japan. It saved my ass.

As for antibiotics, I'd STAY AWAY from them and instead start taking Chios Mastic Gum (I tried several brands, this one's the best IMO). One capsule is 1g, so take 2 capsules a day.

It is a natural localized antibiotic for your stomach, which doesn't have systemic effects which make you feel like death itself.

Let's say take one capsule an hour before breakfast (or more), then take probiotic with breakfast, and take one capsule right as you go to bed.

See what happens with that, and PepZin GI, with your existing regimen, in a week.

Well I've started the antibiotics now so if i do have h.pylori then it will get rid of it. if i still feel sick after i'll give pepzin gi a go.

these antibiotics suck! i feel sick all dang day, and hungry. even 30 mins after i eat i feel hungry

You need to understand what the pills you take DO, otherwise you will never get better.

Nexium reduces stomach acid, to stop compounding damage to stomach lining. It doesn't heal.

Antibiotics may eliminate H. Pylori. They don't heal. They also do a lot of damage to your system.

PepZin GI actually heals.

CONCLUSION: Take PepZin GI regardless. If you want a clean experiment, take it after the antibiotics course is finished. But take it because it will help your recovery.

If you feel hungry, just eat... even if it is just some bread, snacks, or instant noodles. You will feel better. that is the effect of anti-biotics on me too, at times. So I make sure that I eat a full meal at lunch after which I took my antibiotics.

I had triple therapy for H pylori & felt horrendously ill whilst taking those antibiotics, but it did work & kill off the the bacteria because when I got retested there was no more H pylori.

However 3 years later I still have gastritis & pain. Once H pylori has done it's damage it's difficult to repair the lining & like the other comment said you can be left with things like nerve damage/visceral sensitivity.

I don't understand why you weren't checked for H. Pylori while they were doing the Endoscopy test. Doctor's are getting lazier and lazier! I hope you start getting better soon and I agree with what Sunny had to say. Hugs GB

Gramybear - I did get tested for h pylori. The doctor I saw last just plain told me there is nothing to do. He refused to do any kind of further testing and just said "there is no way you can have a problem with your stomach, we have done everything we can" to which i said "so you're telling me that no one has ever had gastritis after taking nexium ?" he bluntly answered "YES. thats right."

after this i lost my cool and starting talking about research i had done and how i know people online (you people lol) that have been dealing with gastritis for a long time and etc etc.

after this he sat quietly at the computer looking over my file. finally he goes "oh there is a note here that says there might be a virus..i didn't see it at first, i almost missed it, i guess the other doctors must have missed it."

I'm pretty sure that he just made that up, it seemed very much like an excuse and a made up pile of garbage. Then he printed me a couple of prescriptions and told me that after I was done the antibiotics I should stop taking the nexium as well. which i will not do. i won't take that chance.

anyways, so now I have finished up two weeks of antibiotics. They were a miserable two weeks and i really feel no better now, but i guess if it did kill a virus that was there then my stomach will need to heal now before i notice any difference.
