Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Consider using digestive enzymes by Source Naturals to assist in digestion.
Also farmer's cheese to help the stomach. I mistakenly called it "cottage cheese" before, which is similar but not the same. Stupid English-as-second-language...
I've been doing digestive enzenges since June and use Iberogast since November and I eat tons of fish and chicken and still can't gain weight, I can even eat ground pork mixed together with rice that I wrapped in cooked cabbage no spices delicious. Has anyone here tried any beef?
I think at some point, you have no choice but to worry about the loss in weight. It is very excessive, even though I feel like I am eating enough. I just eat smaller meals and more frequently... but I know that increases your metabolism in itself. Also not eating after 6pm.
I have lost some 28Lbs in the last 8 weeks... I was 155 to start.... I am at the point where I have lost a lot of muscle mass that it took me a long time to build (years). I do not want to lose anymore. I am slowly increasing my intake of food.... So I hope it stabilizes.
Recently I saw a dentist and found that I have Periodontal disease which they explained can cause some of this burning in my throat ( that I always thought was GERD ). It probably is a combination of the gum disease and the gastritis. I am undergoing a deep cleaning with scaling and ( ? ) can't remember what. I have read that this disease can go systemic and cause all kinds of problems.
Anyway, I'm hoping that when I get thru this process I will be able to eat better. I am sure I never eat more than maybe 200 calories a day. I know how bad that sounds. I just pick and nibble and get down as much as I can and whatever I can.
I started on protein drinks and have been drinking Ensure for years. I think the Ensure is keeping me alive! I used to love food, loved to cook. Now everything is just such an effort that I grab whatever is handy and easy.
@LittleMart -- That is very scary littlemart. Ensure does have 350 calories, so you are definitely above 200. I think if you were eating 200 calories a day, you would in starvation mode.. your body cannot function properly on that. I am so sorry it is really that hard... I hope you feel better.
I personally think it's better to stop worrying about weight-loss, I found the worry led me to pushing my diet too hard and just made my stomach worse. I think as long as you are getting 1000-1500 cals per day the body will eventually stop losing weight, yes you will be skinny but you probably wont get to a point where you look like you've been in a concentration camp.
I know how heartbreaking the weight loss can be when you struggled to put it on in the first place. Before this started I have been eating and training well to bulk up and had put on 20kg. All that and more is gone now, but I just have to stop letting it get to me for now and think that once I'm better I can hopefully gain it all back. In most cases gastritis does eventually heal and you can eat normally again.
@Sara
It may not be the beef, it may be some of the vegetables that caused your flare. I have big problems will too much fibre so have to be careful, raw veg especially leaves me in pain.
Littlemart, can't you eat some soft rice or white or sweet potatoes. I put all my food in the oven so it's easy for me. You are fortunate that you are able to drink ensure giving you the vitamins you need.
