Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Have any of you had this done at the same time. I am next week. Having never experienced either, I have a little angst. Any words of encouragement for fellow sufferer? Give it to me straight...

Never had colonoscopy but Ive had endoscopy last February.If you are in the u.s.you will be sedated and you will simply fall asleep and then wont remember a thing.I have a huge anxiety but this procedure really is ok.Nothing to worry about.Good luck!

The Internet is a comforting and troubling too. I was reading a publication released August 5th that there has been a rise in serious infections from use of Endoscopes because they cannot completely clean the tools of contaminants. Now a bit freaked out...

hi
im from england and had endoscopy i was given choice of being sedated or spray to numb throat, being sedated means you cant drive for 24 hours after so i had spray and with comforting words from staff at hospital it wasnt as bad as i expected but everyone is different im sure your be fine.

Lol.I have read the same thing a week before my endo and it wasn't helpful at all:)I suggest you stop this anxiety promoting reading.You will be fine!

I had both just a week ago.
No problem. They gave me propofol and I was out and back awake in 45 minutes. No sore throat.
The prep is far more annoying than the actual procedure.
Do not plan to work the day before, you will be on clear liquids.
When you begin to drink the miralax solution you will literally have to be near the loo within 5 min and for the rest of the day.

One thought from experience (I've had 4 of these), get some probiotics if you don't already have them and start taking them now to help your stomach keep some of the good stuff and start right up again afterward and for at least a month. Culturelle is good and easy to get.

Husband had his both at the same time. That is when they found his esophageal cancer. There is no more inconvenience in having both procedures done at the same time.

I have to have both regularly. The prep is worse than the test just make sure they are putting you to sleep for that time. Then eat bland foods for that day. And get the probiotic that Nina suggested. Easy test. Good luck.

I've had to Endoscopy without sedation which were uncomfortable but only lasted 2 minutes so Fine. The sedation for my colonoscopy wasn't optional but didn't work anyway so I was awake throughout. That was more painful at times but bearable. To be honest the worst part is fasting the day before especially with the laxatives for the colonoscopy which irritated my stomach
