Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I am going for a colonoscopy this week and I just found out that I can not eat AT ALL the day before the colonoscopy (just drink liquids that you can "see" through like bouillon and jello. I am worried because an empty stomach triggers my gastritis and pain. I usually eat at least a saltine or two every few hours to keep my stomach from getting totally empty and starting the whole gastritis/acid reflux cycle. In the morning I eat a banana first thing to prevent it. Has anyone gone a whole day without solid food? Did your gastritis get triggered? Thank you!
Yes, one must not eat at all before the colonoscopy. This will help to clear everything in your stomach. It's very crucial as the results are dependent on how clear/clean your stomach is. The doctor will need to be able to see the photos clearly. Take care and hugs.
