Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

I have been fighting gastritis for awhile. In the last few days I have been trying hard to eat strict and bland. I do not think I have had a bowel movement in 3 to 4 days. Has anyone gone through phases like this?

This morning I took my omeprazole and waited about 40 minutes to eat. To hopefully help with the movement I had some high fiber brown sugar and maple instant oatmeal. Hope that will hellp. I tried calling my doctor and they coiuld not really help me over the phone so I made an appointment for 11:30. Not sure if they will be able to really help.

I so so so hate gastritis....brings nothing but unhappiness.

I have constipative reaction to H2 blockers, so I always have two laxatives at hand. Swiss Kriss can be taken long-term, and Enzymatic Therapy one cannot be taken for more than 2 months in a row. But I use the latter when my stomach is more picky about what's in it... it's more gentle on the stomach.

Neither should be taken on empty stomach of course.

I've found a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios with a sliced banana every morning helps a lot with that. Oat meal is too irritating for me.

Oh yes I've been through this, along with going to the toilet every 2 hours at times.

At its worst I would only have 1 BM per week, but that was a result of some other medicine I was on as well.

once every 2-3 days is nothing to worry about, I would steer clear of laxatives or anything like that as it always set my stomach off.

Try all-bran extra fiber and Metamucil (not at the same time) . Check the food labels for fiber content.

Surprisingly I don't have a problem with milk, I use about half a cup though. Just take it easy, if you have a big bowl with a lot of milk, you might bloat up and curse me for ever suggesting this. Everyone is different. I can't eat potatoes or rice but bread is OK for me, so is pasta. So that's what I eat instead.
