Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Best time to take meds

My question is when is the best time to take your PPI..I am currently on 40mg of Protonix once a day??

In the morning, one hour before breakfast.

I take 20mg Nexium one hour before breakfast.

If I have a flare up & I need to double my dose then I take an extra 20mg mid afternoon.

For me this works better than taking the whole 40mg in the morning.

To expand this question a little: How close together can we take our meds? For instance if you take Zantac in the morning how soon can you take Pepzin GI or DGL? I take Synthroid first thing and am instructed to wait about 30- 60 minutes before eating and up to 4 hours before taking vitamins etc. Not sure just how rigid I have to be with these things. Then at night I usually need a Zantac but I also take Klonapin and sometimes I need a muscle relaxer or Gabapentin. So is there a rule of thumb for taking Zantac and Pepzin GI with these kinds of meds? I'm really trying to limit prescription drugs, but need to be careful with supplements too.

One other thing about meds. Do you know if the dose should be altered according to weight? I've always been small and I've had a couple bad reactions because I took a dose of something that was too much for me, but just right for a 200 lb man. Shouldn't doctors take your weight into consideration when they prescribe some meds?
