Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

So I went back to my GI doc after two weeks on medicine and told him I was feeling better, he then told me to go ahead and get off the medicine. I was shocked, because it's better but it is not cured and I fell like if I just quit I'll get an awful reaction. I'm concerned that the h pylori is back and I didn't get to ask him about that. I did get another month worth of medicine and decided to take it a little longer and get off gradually and see where I stand then. I'm so stressed about this and I think it's making it worse. I feel like such an idiot, I can't even talk to my doctor right.

Don't beat yourself up over it . I know after I leave my GI I always realize I have forgotten ask him a few things . I think part of it is I'm so nervous whilenI'm there and the other part is he seems to schedule his patients close together so he only spends a certain amount of time with each.
It seems you have a good plan so do what you feel is best for right now . Two weeks does seem to be such a short time on meds . Perhaps you could call and speak to him over the phone ? I have done that a few times with my dr.

Thanks pro211, I think I will call him after I've given it a couple more weeks if there is no improvement. The nerves do get the better of me. My blood pressure always goes real high when I'm at the doctors, so I know I'm nervous.

I agree regarding phoning. I have phoned the nurses working with my GI doc and felt a little uneasy asking my questions, but they are always accommodating.

Last Fall when I visited the GI doc last, I told him I'm probably driving his nurses crazy with all my questions! He just laughed and said it was no problem. I think if we have sincere concerns, they're okay with our asking.

Hi all well I can,t even phone my gastro as I only get his Secretary and she fobs me off. I have to phone the emergency doctors or NHS Direct. They only suggest painkillers. I see the gastro next Friday. I don,t know what to ask him as its getting more painful. Im getting some really bad flare ups and they are still agony. He wanted to put me on 3 Pantoprazole a day. Im not happy with that and only want to take two. What am I going to tell him as I haven,t been taking 3 a day?
