Hi annabb I know as Ive had a few endoscopies and they are not pleasant. I had one which diagnosed my stomach ulcer over two years ago. I think I then had one when it showed it had gone. I last had one about a year ago which showed the gastritis and hiatus hernia,I did have to push to see the gastro again and get this. I was still suffering so I had it and I still am. You will have to decide whether to have another, if its worth it. The treatment is just the same afterwards however it does rule out anything serious. Maybe you do need one if you want biopsies to see if its H pylori. I will think of you and I hope your treatment works for you. Best wishes

Hi Poorlygirl, thanks for your reply, I guess I'll have to wait and see. I took my second Carafate today and I swear I feel a little worse, mostly nauseated. Sounds like you've been through a lot, you are still not feeling any better? Hope you are feeling better soon.

Jim, I had an endoscopy Oct 2010 after treatment for H Pylori and they found erosion and mild gastritis. They also did biopsies and the it came back clean for HP and no sigh of cancer.

Ok. That's not too long ago at all. I'm suprised they want to do another endo so soon. Guess they just want to see whats going on.

Yeah, it seems a little soon to me too. It's got me a bit worried.

I wouldn't worry. They probably want to monitor the extent of the gastritus since it's come back . Endo is the only way to establish with most certainty what's happening down there. If you respond to the double ppi treatment they prob will not do one.

What were you taking and your dosage before this flare up?

Thanks for the encouragement, this gastritis stuff really messes with my emotions.

A month or so after my endo, the symptoms mostly subsided, I still watched what I ate and had some acid once in awhile. If I had a mild flare, I just took omeprazole once a day for a few days and it got better. So, other than that I didn't take anything.
This last bout started I think with some mild food poisoning and it got a little better, then worse so here I am--again.

How are you, do you have yours under control?

Just a comment about endoscopies:

When I had mine done (that's upper AND lower, btw, having the colonoscopy first), I had the option of being 'fully' awake or a heavier type of sedation. I had no interest in watching the screen, so I told them I want to be fully relaxed. They said no problem!

I don't even remember anything after they started the IV and told me to roll on my side! And the time went SO fast! I think most places are pretty accommodating to their patients if you tell them what you prefer.

Ann, my story is similar to yours. I underwent endo about a year ago after 6 months of crazy symptoms. I was diagnosed with erosive esophagitus and gastritus. I healed up after 10 weeks of double ppi . I did well until this past Christmas when I thought I'd try to stop the ppi altogether . It came back with a vengeance. Ive been fighting it since then.
