Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Anybody do a liquid diet for their gastritis? Things like meal replacement shakes, vegan protein shakes, etc. Did it help/cure your gastritis?

Not tried any of those. But from what I read online aloe Vera Juice, cranberry juice and coconut water is recommended.

Gastritis is tricky. Fluid only may not work and you have to be careful with the type of fluids. This is a trial and error process. Everyone is different with gastritis. What foods etc bothers one person may not bother the next person. Generally the stomach gets worse when it is empty with gastritis. Small amounts of very plain food is the way to go for most people. Protein shakes have a lot of food types in it. Anything in it can cause more stomach inflammation. Stick to plain foods. Bananas, whole wheat bread, cooked carrots, plain chicken, oatmeal is very good for this use water to make it. Nothing else in it. Sweet potatoes are generally good too and plain rice. The only way to heal it is to eat very plain food. No dairy, no fish. No red meat. No coffee no soda. Soy milk and water works well. Nothing added to oatmeal for example and work on anxiety if you have it. Healing gastritis takes a lot of determination and discipline. If you stick to very plain food and small amounts, you will get better.

I'm not on a liquid diet but last year, right before I was diagnosed, I had lost my appetite almost completely and my stomach felt "tight" and uneasy but not painful. Of course, loss of appetite wasn't good because I started dropping weight fast. My brand new primary care at the time was a naturopath and he prescribed a health smoothie that caused immediate relief for my tight belly. It included: fruit, almond milk, slippery elm, chia seeds (protein), glutemine, aloe vera, and probiotics. It was and is still SO soothing to my belly. I took it every day and started to feel better. I stopped taking it because I felt so normal but fast forward a year and I'm now having trouble again with tight stomach. So I'm on it again and it's still wonderful. Not sure if anyone else has drank this combination but if you have similar symptoms, you might give it a try.

If I was doing a smoothie, I would add things slowly. Start with what you know doesnt bother you then add one thing at a time. The cause of gastritis can determine what bothers you as well but over the many years being on here, there have been a lot of comments about seeds and probiotics making them feel worse but in a smoothie you may be able to get away with it. If you find something that works, stick to it though for quite a while. You are fortunate when you get to that place of having a list of foods that you know are ok for you. You are on your way to healing it nicely especially if you havent had gastritis for years etc. The key is to nip it in the bud as quickly as you can. It does tend to come back after a year or so but once you go a good 5 years with only tiny symptoms here and there, you are in a very good place and will be from then on. It takes time for lining of the stomach to heal and it may not completely but after a number of years with rarely a symptom, you are on your way!
