Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I am on the triple treatment of 2 anti b's and ppi (Esomeprazole). At first it felt like it was making me worse, but the side effects of this treatment I think are to blame for additional symptoms this week. I have to completely rethink my diet, as I am sure many people do. I have read countless blogs about gut health and it seems the gut is linked to everything else in our bodies. If our gut is not happy, the rest of our body suffers. It's horrible, but after reading some posts it seems there is hope :)
So far I have tried drinking Kefir daily, taking 2 probiotics about an hour after antibiotics, lots of veg, lots of plain food (no spice or tomato based foods), kombucha.
I have also found some relief from herbal teas, such as ginger, licorice root, mint, rooibos.
The probiotics I am on include chicory fibre, which apparently help with the inflammation.
Oh, and I am taking vitamin sprays (iron, D and B12) instead of tablets, as from my experience any vitamin tabs or effervescent wreak havoc on my gut.
I wish you all the best :)
You can get to a good place. It can take over 2 years for the stomach to heal well. Dont give up. This can get way better.
