Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
You can have a probiotic with bacteria from dairy.
From what I read, there was a study that was done which showed the acid rebound from milk. They think it is either due to the calcium or the casein. I am not sure though... but it makes sense because for some people tums causes it, and tums sometimes has calcium added.
I dont think the lactose matters unless you are intolerant to it. Maybe someone else could chime in
However calcium ions stimulate acid production when subsequently absorbed into the bloodstream & can provoke rebound hyper-acidity making the initial problem worse.
That's the theory anyway...
Personally I seem to feel worse if I avoid dairy - I get more pain. Same if I avoid wheat. I think the dairy & wheat absorb/buffer the stomach acid & help relieve my pain.
