Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I remember when my gastritis was bad, I literally struggled to drink 5 oz of water a day. Crazy.
But going back to your original comment, given I also had a hiatal hernia, drinking a lot after eating would lead to a lot of regurg. However, since I was on a PPI (still am) it never manifested itself as acidic reflux. It was tough figuring out if drinking as much as I could was detrimental but now that I am closed to healed, I have to say that I don't think it matters too much as long as you don't take in excessive amounts (like 200oz a day or something).
I would just say though to drink when you're thirsty.
I even did all that drinking flavored water (it had citric acid in it for those who are wondering)
Therefore what I am trying to say is I was prone to regurg.
Given my special case of being on a PPI, I drank as much as I was comfortable with and even a little past that and I didn't see a noticeable change in recovery.
Could it of slowed my recovery a little? Maybe. All I know is that I was diagnosed in late August and am pretty much 90-95% in January and have been above the 70% mark since probably October.
Excuse my inability to communicate, haha.
They all require a lot of acid in order to be digested.
In terms of water, and liquid in general, I found it very problematic in my early stages of gastritis and consequently would only drink when thirsty. As i mentioned on another thread, liquid was more of an issue for me than food and made my gastritis and nausea worse.
Strawberries were never a big issue for me though I rarely ate them. Bananas were the only fruit I was completely comfortable with when my gastritis was at its worst. Good luck!
foods seems to be going down much easier but every time i reach for water after (even after waiting an hour after i eat) i get nauseous and sick to my stomach.
it's like the water is worse than food. this happens particularly at night, after dinner.
