Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

I'm not complaining here but I just need help with differentiating between gastritis pains and acid reflux pain.

I've been taking Zantac and Pepzin regularly and the heartburn is gone for the most part. Eating better... gained a pound or two which still fluctuates. But it's encouraging.

But now I'm having those rib pains and the spasms in the esophagus again. These are usually quick and gone. So what causes these pains in and around the ribs? And what do you do for them? So far I've just let it go and it's usually over fast. The spasms in the esophagus are scary and can be intense, but they seem to be over quickly too.

I finally got it into my head that gastritis and gerd are 2 different things and feel differently. I always thought the 2 went hand in hand but I guess that's not necessarily true.

I have the rib pain too, on both sides and mine is from what I'm assuming is acid reflux. I also have pain or I should say more a soreness in my stomach sometimes (it kinda feels like i did an ab workout....but I didnt lol) not sure if that's from gasttitis. my heartburn too has gotten much better and all I have is pain/soreness. Do you still drink coffee? How is your diet?

I get pain on both sides too. I just wondered about this since the acid is not bothering me right now. My diet is not great. I pretty much eat what I want. I have given up coffee although sometimes I drink a half cup still. And yes, it is a soreness.

I have MS and we get something called the MS HUG which is a constricting pain around the middle that kind of feels like this at times. But I'm beginning to be able to tell the difference.

I recently had blood work for inflammation which came back good. This was done by my rheumatologist for the Fibro etc. I wonder if those same blood tests would pick up inflammation in the stomach??
