Hi all, I tried searching the discussions before posting to make sure it hasn't been asked before and didn't see the exact circumstances, so I apologize if it's been asked before. I'd really appreciate your thoughts.

I have been on ranitidine (Zantac) 150mg, twice a day, since 2011 and it has worked great. I'll have an occasional flare up, but only a few days of clean diet then I'll be back to normal (how lucky was I?).

But that all changed a month ago when I got a cold/flu. After 5 days and the sickness started to subside, I got incredible gastritis and acid reflux -- churning non stop. My twice and day ranitidine and any combo of Maalox/mylanta couldn't stop it. It has been three weeks with no relief. Is this a flare up or a long term issue? Have any of you been perfectly fine for 6 years on your current setup, then get sick, and everything change?

I've been to two doctors who said PPIs are the best way to go, but I have tried omeprazole, Zegerid, Protonix, and had such bad side effects they recommended I get off them because I likely have an allergy or ultra sensitivity to PPIs. I currently take ranitidine 150/mg twice a day along with carafate twice a day. Over the weeks the acid has been reduced somewhat, and only really triggers terribly after eating (but for hours), but it's still so much higher than it was. Two months ago I could have had pizza and beer and would have been fine with my ranitidine, but now I eat bland chicken and steamed veggies and I get bad acid.

I know I don't compare in severity to some of you, but I would appreciate your thoughts. Has anyone had a similar situation? Any ideas other than diet and time? I don't have pain on my right side, or acute pain from fatty foods, and no vomitting or dark stools.

I have had an ultrasound which showed no gallstones or immflamation. An endoscope or HIDA test are probably next.
