Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Are you able to eat more of a variety of different foods. I'm so sick of eating the same things day after day. One thing I'm happy about is I can tolerate vanilla frozen yogart, I eat it at room temperature. That's about the only thing that has sugar in it.
Are you still takin your PPI, like Dexolant?
My GI dr recommends I continue using it until my stomach lining is completely healed.
Stay happy and healthy.
I'm more than 2 months in and still feeling unwell. My throat has been feeling sore and dry lately, so I'm wondering if another endoscopy is necessary...
My mornings and the day are definitely the hardest. By afternoon and evening the pain tends to taper off a bit, but I'm not sure if it's because I'm resting at home after a long day at work.
My diet is still very limited, I tried a carrot muffin today and can feel a slight discomfort, but NOTHING in comparison to what is used to be. I usually eat a banana for breakfast, sometimes broth or rice for lunch and then a small dinner (rotisserie chicken, spinach and rice)
The thing I am missing the most is my red red wine....I can't wait to be able to have a normal nice dinner and a big glass or red :) Think I'll give it a little bit longer tho!!!
Glad your feeling better!!!
Do they know what caused your gastritis?
Glad to hear you are doing much better. Can you tell me where you purchased the probiotic and I am assuming your doctor said it was ok with the PPI, I am in my third week of it . I would also be interested if you had any symptoms like after you eat feeling hungry or having stomach growling, and of course that full feeling etc. I have been doing the bland diet and eating something every three hours. Did you have an endoscopy? My doctor wants to wait a month before doing one.
Great News for you!
Toni
I purchased the probiotic at a local wellness shoppe (They said the 70 billion was the best but I settled for the 30 billion and take it three times a day) It's made by progressive and is called HCP30 (I think I paid about $50 and the 70 billion was $80)
I still do feel full sometimes, like right now, I'm not overly hungry but know I have to eat so will force myself to eat a small dinner. My stomach growling has subsided a little but it still surprises me with some strange noises here and there.
Things will get better! I promise!
Monitor choices and consequences via your stomach. The stomach does not throw random fits. It reacts to specific things you put into it, or things you should put into it, but aren't.
If you feel like crap in the morning, then you may have excess acid accumulate during the night. However you're already on a PPI, which could mean that it's not a good PPI for you, or that you need more of it.
Of course PPIs are dangerous and at such early stages a sane person should try and switch to Pepcid or at least Zantac while they still can. In order of escalation - Pepcid 20mg before bed... 20mg every 12 hours... 20mg every 8 hours.... 40mg every 12 hours - whichever dose stabilizes your acid at levels which allow for uninterrupted healing.
Also... PepZin GI.
I have noticed some things when reading these forums and others. People wanting to and going back to the old lifestyle that created the mess they are in now. Why would you want to revert back to drinking when it may have been the cause for your stomach problems? Why do people still drink coffee even though it is a culprit for stomach problems, even though at the time it may not effect you? To completely change ones diet in order to fix themselves and then once better, after going through such an awful thing, one must wonder why anyone would want to revert back to the bad lifestyle they were leading beforehand with processed foods, alcohol, tons of caffeine, junk food, fatty food, drugs etc. I don't assume I will constantly be in a strict diet but I would always be weary of not touching alcohol and caffeine, especially those two. And go easy on cakes and cookies. Sadly I bake cakes and cookies and breads a whole lot for my kids schools and birthdays, but the quick licking of frosting here and there has stopped and must not continue even after I am healed. No way would I want this again. Please make sure to think about that before reverting back to the old lifestyles we once led. We definitely deserve better since there's people out there that live even more horrible life's than us and are completely fine.
