Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

I've had to go back on a PPI (this time it's dexilant) and I'm having the tingling in my hands and seeing spots in my vision again. I was wondering what b12 vitamin brand any of you recommend? I wanted one that I dissolve under my tongue :-) thanks!

Have you had your B12 levels checked? Don't automatically assume it's that. I might be wrong, but surely it would take a while to become B12 deficient?

I occasionally take Swanson Methylcobalamin... just because I sort of feel I ought to - with being on these acid suppression meds long term... but I've never had any symptoms of low B12 & never had low levels in a test.

Hi Smile, thanks for your info! I was low right before I started my first PPi 5 months ago and I took a B12 supplement. Then I had another test in April and I was fine so my doctor took me off. Now I'm starting to get the symptoms again as I was before and for the past week I've up my zantac and started a PPi. So I'm assuming my b12 is off. But then I look on the (not so go for me) Internet and it says my symptoms could be type 2 diabetes. Both my biological father and grandfather had it, so now my anxiety is kicking in. Ahhhhhhh it NEVER ends!!!!!

Ah you know what to look out for with low B12 then.

Looking up symptoms on the internet is NEVER good is it?!!! In the early days (according to Dr Google) all my symptoms pointed to heart disease, not gastritis!!!! Yep... I was dying...

Go see a real Dr.... not Dr Google... Extra anxiety will make every symptom worse.

Id be careful to check which brand you use as they often add HCl to improve absorption, usually a small amount but always best to be cautious

Hi luckymama. Get some B12 supplements, and yes - just make sure they're the sublingual type, the ones you dissolve under your tongue. I really don't think the brand matters.

Your symptoms should stop after about a week. I'm on Dexilant and had the same thing: tingles, spots in vision, pins and needles... it's the B12. If I skip the supplements for a few days the symptoms come back.

After taking B12 injections and having blood work done my B12 was off the charts high so I was told to stop the B12. But I am having the tingling too. So a new Dr I saw said to keep taking the B12 because even if my numbers were high, I'm not metabolizing the B12 and still need the supplements. Very confusing. Anyone heard of this? PS -- I'm tapering off the PPIs and am so looking forward to getting them out of my life for good -- no matter what it takes to be free of them. Yes, they got rid of the stomach and throat burn, but the side effects on my body have been horrendous -mentally, physically and emotionally.

I am not happy to take PPI - I do take b12 as I know u need it more so after the age of 50 for digestion.
