Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

How long should I go before I start introducing food/drinks back into my diet once I start to feel better? I've been feeling good for about a week now and I know it's still way too soon. I'm no longer on my PPI and I still plan on doing a low acid diet (just because it's such a healthy way to eat) but every now and then I would like to maybe have a tomato or a cup of cold brewed coffee. Thanks for any advice.

A couple of months at least. Feeling better means that the inflammation is down and your tissues/nerves are just beginning to heal. A slighest drop of the wrong foods will send you right back now.

Stay away from coffee!!!

How are you feeling? How long were you on PPIs. Im currently wanting to get off them.

Any tips on healing the inflammation on tissues/ nerves?

I'm feeling much better than when all this started. I was on PPI's for 3 months and have been off for about 3 weeks. As long as I stick with a low acid diet I don't even need Zantac. I read somewhere on here that the stomach tricks you into thinking it's better and then you eat or drink something that it dosent like and then wham! So I'm going to stay away from triggers for another couple of months.

luckymamaof3. From my research and looking around the web even those who were x10 worse than you stayed on a boring diet for 2 years, now theyre back to eating w/e they want with no medication. If you want , message me so I can send you the links. I plan on doing this too, get on a diet which gives me no symptoms and stay on it for years(or for life but I know this is not an option for most ppl here) as long as it gives me all the vitamins , etc.

I was one of those with no symptoms anymore until I started to get on a regular diet too soon now I'm on PPI + bland diet and I'm not 100% like i was a few months ago. Could you tell me how did you quit your PPI? How did you taper off of it? I need to get off mine too.

No milk for me, I've never liked it and I'm lactose intolerant :-(
