Stomach cancer (also called gastric cancer) can develop in any part of the stomach and may spread throughout the stomach and to other organs, particularly the esophagus, small intestine. It also may extend through the stomach wall and spread to nearby lymph nodes and to organs such as the liver, pancreas, and colon.

Surgery for Gastric Cancer

I was diagnosed with stomach cancer on January 21, 2007. I was quickly in for surgery on February 5th and just back to work.

The entire stomach was removed and life is certainly upside-down in terms of diet, lifestyle, socialization, trying to balance my nutritional levels.

I have a 16" scar and it is still healing.

I am searching for any tips or advice I can get from people who have had entire gastrectomies.

hey. good luck. i wish you the best. i dont know how you feel exsactly but i know how it feels to be colse to some one with it. my mom, my uncle and my grandpa have or had it. i dont have any tips or advice for you. i was hoping you could answer a few questions for me. are there any other treatment other than surgery? how bad is the surgery? well please get back to me soon.

I was diagnosed with stomach cancer 4/23 and had surgery 4/30. Upside down lifestyle is a good way to descibe it. I'm still not able to eat; I have the feeding tube going directly into my small intestine. My esophagus was burned by the radiation treatments and this caused me to not be able to eat. What have been your experiences.

well for me, the doctors are thinking about surgery and that but its a high risk because i've had surgery on my heart and a double lung transplant (my history is in my journal - just ask to be my friend so you can read it other wise you'll have no access) but the catch is my body keeps producing more cancer everyday. an they doctors have never seen this before so its all new for everyone and scary

I had my stomach removed Dec 2001 and my body rejected the feeding tube. I started eating solid foods almost imediately. One problem I had with surgery was they gave me morphene knowing I was alergic to it and caused me to have to get blood transfusions due to vomiting so much blood. I'm doing awesome today and am so thankful to connect with people here with same issues. Wow :)
