Wow sugar cravings are bad

right now it seems like since I got the news that my surgery was approved and know that I will be having it in a few weeks. I haven't really cared about any kind of sugar, fatty things before this but now I am seriously craving these things. I want candy bars, cake, brownies, ice cream, all sorts of fast foods. I cannot believe it. I know this is my mind playing tricks on me saying "you need to eat all this while you can because in a few weeks you will never have this stuff again" but geez. I mean I have read posts about others going through something similar but never expected it to hit me so hard as I have been living without those things for a long time now due to my diabetes. Just need the strength to get through the next few weeks and then I will be fine.

That happened to me last month.. get some sugar free popsicles now and start eating them. They're awesome and my cravings went away after eating those. Goodluck

I totally understand what your feeling, I felt the same exact way before surgery and fought tooth and nail to NOT indulge. I want to tell you to take it one hour at a time. One day at a time. As I got closer to surgery I took into consideration all I had read and learned in the Weight Management classes about the seriousness of following the pre-op diet closely and I did pretty good. I haven't had sugar in 6 weeks now but still crave it. The one thing I know for sure is I will never eat it again in fear of the dumping syndrome. I wish you lots of strenght with this ordeal, it is NOT easy and you are NOT alone. But you can do it!

Great post.....so many of us went through this. naisiaB had a great suggestion. Buy some sugar free popsicles, sugar free pudding, to try to satisfy your sweet tooth. Your head iis telling you that you'll never have these foods, but there are great substitutes and there are foods that you can't have for a little while but can eventually add back in at much smaller portions.

As far as fast food, the only suggestion I have is to stay away. You don't want to reek havoc on your liver this close to surgery. I know it's not the same but how about buying veggie burgers and sweet potato fries to try as satisfy your fast food craving? It's similar and maybe that will help with your cravings and it's good for the whole family.
