Resolution: I reassured him that I've done my research - I know the importance of following the diet to the letter and taking care of me - that this is not a quick fix it is a lifestyle commitment. I got him to read wls for dummies and now that he knows what I do about the risks and consequences he knows how committed I am. When I first heard those words "Your own your own" I went into shock because there has been so such thing in 29 years so I felt like my heart was breaking - but when the light came on I realized that he was retreating so I would be forced to stay on my game, I fell in love with him all over again. (tough love ain't easy but OMG sometimes it's just necessary). He said on those nights I work late, you must eat. Don't hold dinner, don't wait for me. Make sure you take care of you because my life is nothing with out you.
It made me stop and realize how God in his infinite wisdom used my rock to steady me, to transfer my fears to my strength and seal any doubts I had that my best friend, partner and lover cared about me so much that he was willing to break my heart in order to save my life. I share this with you because sometimes we don't need to be coddled, we need the raw uncensored truth about some things. Given half a chance without this surgery, yes we would start every fad diet out there, loose the weight - something in our lives would crash and we'd eat the pounds right back on. So is it a wonder that anybody would take us serious in pursuing something so drastic as wls - the commitment to the life style change alone is challenging. And it only tackles one thing in our lives "the weight", what do we do with all the other things that have threatened our progress in the past?
The wls is a first step to total healing if you allow it to be. You still have to look at the total picture and ask yourself just how far out on a ledge am I willing to go to really "save my life" because unless you tackle your life, mind body and spirit, We will never conquer or live the lives God meant for us to have. You can't just say loosing the weight will restore totally happiness without working on the whole package that makes you who you are. So one of my biggest challenges is co-dependency - my husband was brave enough to point that out - hell he shoved it in my face and I had to take it in order to move forward.
I know I am rattling on but its because in 5 days - well really 4 because on the 5th day my life as I know it changes forever and I want the whole package. I don't want to be thinner and still be holding onto luggage that could potentially send me spiraling backwards.
Just food for thought, I wanted to share. Revelations are occurring all the time - eye opening realities that are the foundation for true healing. This is not the time for cover-ups or false truths. It's time to come face to face with ourselves. I am made strong because I faced my weaknesses.
Love you all.
