I first off apologize that this is going to be lengthy but I'm a tid bit emotional at the moment and am confused.
About a month ago I was scheduled to have RNY on May 2nd, pending insurance of course. I have United Health Care and they have been a BEAR to deal with. I have had a zillion hoops to jump through but I figure that it all will be worth it because it is better emotionally preparing me for such a huge change. Heck, I've already lost 10 pounds just preparing for surgery.
Wednesday is the day I should be starting my 2 week pre op diet and today I get a call from my "therapy/mental health team" saying that my case isn't being looked at until Friday of this week and I should have their yay/ney by NEXT Monday. That's all fine but if they give me the yey I will literally have 1 week to give my heads up to work that I am going to need time off and that I am having surgery on the 2nd.
I guess this is where I need advice.
I just started this literally phenomenal job where my reviews have been great and I will have been there 2 months as of May 6th. Do I go into my bosses office and tell her that I have been on this journey for over a year now and that I have a tentative date of May 2nd... or do I wait until I know for sure next week whether I have it or not?
They deserve the notice and I want to stay at the company but I am just trying to figure out what to do. I still don't know what to think about insurance either. Needless to say I have been crying since that phone call.. I have worked so hard for this and I just am at a loss.

I would tell them ASAP. It may look bad that you have been planning it for a while and are all of a sudden going to take time off. They will be understanding since you will be so much healthier after! good luck and keep us posted on what happens :)
