With the potentiL activity level of your job, I'd take off about 4wks. There is a lifting restriction for a month.

I took two full weeks off and then went back to one week of 1/2 days. I work at an office at a desk job. You won't be able to lift much for the first 6-8 weeks so it is best to ask your wls program how much time to take off.

I took 5 wks. I don't do any strenuous activity and I'm still drained at the end if the day.

I went back to work after 4 days, yeah not recommended but I have a job that i can stand and sit when needed and my administration made sure that I took it easy.

My doctor required 3 weeks I took a month because I could. My job is not always physical but it can get that way pretty fast if something goes off.

I had 4 weeks off. I have a desk job so I know some could go back earlier. I had some slight complications so I was very thankful for the time off. Plus it gives you time to get used to your new ways.

I had 2 weeks and it was way too early. I was exhausted. There is not lifting for 2 months on my program over 5 lbs. Maybe you can arrange to do less active stuff and no lifting for a while? Good luck! and I love paramedics! Hard work and underappreciated.

I have a desk job and went back after two weeks but i probably could have gone back sooner. (I had enough time banked so I took the extra time) You'll probably have lifting restrictions. So avoid lifting patients until your doctor clears you for lifting. If your working at a desk and taking vitals you should be fine. You'll also want to avoid difficult or aggressive patients so they don't hurt you.

I am a nurse on an oncology unit with some pretty heavy pts. My doctor gave me 8 weeks. I am 5 weeks postop and could not imagine doing 12 hour shifts at this point. I also had a pretty big hernia repair so I am not sure if that made the difference but I am just now feeling like I can lift things without hurting myself. Take what ever time you can. Good luck!
