Pausing at this point in time is very common. Keep up your water (64 oz) and protein (60-90) each day. This is very important to keep things moving. Also get plenty of rest and do things to distress. Letting your mind go crazy is not conducive to shedding weight and in fact is detrimental. Keep focused on your NSV's and work on staying positive. Also pay attention to any mental emotional issues that are coming up along the journey. Stick with your program!

Normal! I had a total weight loss stall at just two weeks PO and it lasted for four weeks. However, I was losing inches like crazy. So right now, get a notebook and take body measurements. It's really encouraging to see that you are melting away even when the scale seems to be stuck. Your body is in a kind of shock and it's trying to figure things out. The scale will move again soon enough. Hang in there.

Thank you for the encouragement and suggestions. Everyone says I look so much thinner but it's hard to believe when the scale doesn't budge! I took your advice farmergirl and measured today. Thanks for the suggestion. Forty years of weight loss failures is a bit of a mental obstacle to overcome but I'm trying to think positive and look for NSVs...like a 6 inch gap between the steering wheel and my tummy! Yay!

Totally normal. And like FarmGirl says, watch your measurements too. Sometimes the scale moves, sometimes the tape measure will. You'll have plateaus where nothing moves for a bit too. Don't worry, keep up your liquids, proteins and vitamins and it will start up again. Happy healing.

Hang in there luvlight - as everyone else is saying - make sure you are drinking all day and eating all of your protein. I had surgery on 9/27/15 and like you I stalled at 3 weeks out. I was really bummed but realized I wasn't eating enough! I upped my protein (went back to the protein shakes and tried to put protein powder in anything I could) and that jumped started my loss. I have now lost a total of 45 lbs - in less than 2 months - yippie!

I know the scale is not everything - but right after surgery it feels like everything! Don't forget your NSV's - they are everywhere!

One thing I would like to add is that you continue with all of your fluid, nutritional (protein), and calorie intake. I know that when my weight stalled I was tempted to cut back, but like everyone said, the body doesn't move straight down the weight loss scale. It moves in cycles and fits and starts. Keep doing the things the doctors and the people here say to do and everything will work the way it is supposed to. That is my experience anyway.

I had my surgery on 11/16. Discharged on 11/18 and I am up 11.5 pounds. But... I'm holding onto fluid. My urine output in hospital was a concern, but it has picked up since I've been home. My only concern now is that I get in just under 4 oz. of protein drink per the required 1/2 hour increment and getting in the water is difficult. I can only take tiny sips at a time. If I drink a bigger sip (not big at all) I get horrible pain in my mid-sternum region. It is early on yet though, "it will be my full time job right now to drink my water and protein drinks".

OMG I started day of surgery 249 3 days later 258 today 243. We have to remember we were puffed up for surgery and then pumped full of liquid. We all know these things but it is disappointing to be up after surgery. Keep keeping on I enjoy all of our chats back and forth. I read something and swear that is me talking. Happy Thanksgiving. We all are normal and experience the same things.

Istmee this is normal weight gain after surgery from the IV fluids. I gained 9 lbs. Then I started losing 3 pounds a day for 5 days. Fluid. Keeping your protein and water up the best you can will also help your body remove the excess fluid. I added greek yogurt to my shakes to concentrate the protein since getting volume down was an issue. Just do the best you can without pushing your pouch's limits. If there is mid-sternal pain...slow down.

Happy to report my third week stall out has passed and at 4 weeks 2 days I've dropped another 6 pounds. I just have to remind myself it's a tool, not magic, and be patient. :)
