Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
However, we can also have other issues. 2 1/2 years after my RNY I had a twisted intestine and Intussusception that had me writhing in pain for hours until I finally went to the ER. I was in surgery that afternoon. Another girl from the boards was in England with the same thing and it took them 2 weeks to operate. By that time part of her intestines had died and they had to resect a section. Then she had to start all over as if she'd just had RNY, which was not good because she was already under her goal weight.
Short story - if you are in severe pain, go to the hospital where you had your surgery. Our innards are no longer standard issue and it takes a specialist to correctly read our test results (actually, I even had to go through a special protocol when they ran the tests).
