Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
Cravings do raise their ugly head at some point in the journey. I'm not sure they ever REALLY go away. I think it happens to most of us. Every once in awhile I will give in to a craving....but not often and never for days in a row. As long as you recognize it and don't continue down the salty-sweet path, you'll be fine.
When I get a craving for salty-sweet I've tried substituting things like water, a walk, sugar-free pudding, veggies with salt and vinegar. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. If a craving for a particular food kicks in and just won't' go away, I eat a VERY SMALL AMOUNT ;of what I'm craving. A couple of pretzels, two potato chips, a small bite of cake or an itty bitty cookie, a piece of Dove dark chocolate. So far I've been able to have a taste of something I want without going whole hog or making it a habit. For me, it's a mind game and it always will be..
My thoughts about the salty carb foods are to notice where in your body you feeling the craving as you think about the food. Ask yourself why salty? Ask yourself why now? What is the feeling associated with the craving? What was going to my on for you in your life leading up to wanting the salty carb food? What else was gong on that needs to be addressed? And then, what would you say if you could speak from your heart?
These are great questions to help us stop and think before we act to help us transform our triggers. I'm reading a book called Talk Rx: Five Steps to Honest Conversations That Create Connection, Health, and Happiness by medical Dr. Neha Sangwan. I heard Dr. Neha on a podcast and fell in love with her. I am also following her Talk Rx with Doctor Neha podcasts. When you get the book, you get link access to audios, a journal, and a guidebook. I have already reaped rewards with my own eating and in my relationships.
Just something to try!
I have dsicovered an easy fix to the salty/carb cravings: Quest chips! If you go to quest.com you will find five different flavors of chips. They are about 100 cals. apiece with 21 gms.of protein. They taste like baked Lays. You can feel virtuous when you eat them, and they are really satisfying.
I LOVE your new hairstyle, and with the coloring it makes you look ten years younger, as akgirl said!
Now to find the book LCat mentioned and the website for the Quest chips...
