I'm sorry I have no answers on what you asked this time my procedures were 4 yrs and 2 years ago and things change so much I know driving for me was about 6 weeks maybe mainly because I had a standard shift to much strain on the belly muscles........I don't work but those also would require a Dr release in many cases so you may want to ask your surgeon. My friend had to get a note to return. .......wow look at me i said more then i thought again.........welcome :)

I took off one week. I have a desk job and was no longer on pain meds so I could drive. Each plan is different, so ask your doc what he/she expects. I had RNY almost 2 years ago (June).

I think the time-off depends on a lot of factors (your surgeon, any complications, your type of work, etc). Minimum 1 - week. Ideal - 6 weeks. The only driving restrictions I had were because of the pain meds. I believe I was on them for a week and a half (but it was 5 years ago, so my memory could be off).

Welcome to a great group! I took a month off and went on vacation my final week off. I still rested though. It has been almost five years but I think that I couldn't drive as long as I was on pain meds. You will need the time off the heal and get used to your newly remodeled body and its new needs. i had mine 5 weeks ago and was told 2 weeks of no driving and i had 3 weeks off but if you job is long or heavy i would ay aleast 4 or even 5

I had my RNY surgery 6 weeks ago. I was told two weeks off, but ended up going back in the hospital with dehydration, so I was off for 4 weeks total. Sip, Sip, Sip those fluids, so very important. I couldn't drive for 4 weeks also, but that seemed a little long (probably could have driven at 2 weeks). Keep the questions coming.........

Welcome and congratulations. I'm just a year out. I took off 2 full weeks and the 3rd was 1/2 days. That last week was rough, but it helped me build my stamina back up. At 3 full weeks out, I was back on track and fully able to work full time again. I did work the 2nd week at home. It was rough sitting up at the desk for long periods of time, i'm very glad I took the time I did. If I had wanted more my surgeon was on board with it, but much more then that and I'd have lost my mind. Good luck.

I just had surgery Jan 27, I was told orig no driving for one week and back to work after two, but he knicked my bowel so I wasn't allowed to drive for 3 weeks because of pushing the brake pedal...it will depend on what job you do and if there are any complications, I would plan for 2, but 4-6 if you can, you may not feel like going back so soon with all the emotions you will be having. Good Luck! it does get easier as time goes on.

Thanks to all who responded. I guess I will see how everything goes. I am a massage therapist, so my job is very physical, so I will probably plan to be off a little longer than some.

Yes, as a massage therapist you will definitely need more time for your abdominal muscles to heal. Going back half time for a week or so helped me ease back in. Just food for thought, it's not really 10 days always from your new life, it's "I am living my life anew now"! You've already started, and the surgery is just one more part of the journey in your life's choices. Best wishes !
