Tonight is my first of 5 meetings (the next five Mondays) with my NUT. The meetings are geared to those of us who are 12-18 months out as a refresher but also to be sure we know what to expect at this point. The meetings are limited to 8 participants so it should be good. I did not realize that at 12 months out (I am 14) I should be getting 100 grams of protein per day! I learned that at the last support group meeting so I am sure there are things I have forgotten or never knew. I'll post anything particularly interesting or new to me. Kathy

I was just wondering to myself last night how you have been doing! The groups sound like a great idea! This is a life long process but the dr support seems to kinda drop off once they did there part!
I myself will be starting a post op group tomorrow!

What a great service! Wonder if my surgeon does this. Just 4 months RNY, but can see the benefits for such a thing.

I actually never saw my surgeon or his PA at 12 months-- he was out of the country and the PA who I usually saw went into labor unexpectedly so the office had me do lab work and I had a phone interview about my weight etc. So I am glad these classes came up. The cost is $150 for five 90 minutes classes which is a really good deal. I know I can eat a few things I wish I couldn't (sweet-wise) so need to get everything back in check. My weight is still 160 which is okay with me but I am curious if I should expect to lose more or am at the maintenance phase. :)

Touky- I meant to say I agree that once the surgeon has done his/her job, it's really up to us. I'll be interested in hearing how your group goes. That's what is great about being part of this online group-- I can't imagine going through this without having had the amazing support and knowledge of everyone here! K

Enjoy your meeting!!!

I, too, have started in a support group. My dr's office only has a few meetings a year, because we live in a rural area, and it was like pulling teeth to get the name of a couple of people that wanted a face-to-face meeting with people that live in my area, but I did it. Last week I met with 4 other ladies, and we're meeting again next week. We're going to try for twice a month, if the snow allows!

I think it's the best motivator to be with like people...

A hospital 18 miles from me offers a support group once a month. I have gone to 2 of them now. Once before surgery and once 2 weeks after. Its ok, its nice to actually see peoples progress. This group here is just as good if not better, but I will probably keep going. There are some girls there I want to be there to help support them. It breaks my heart to hear some of their emotional issues. But going to be there for them for awhile anyway.

My surgeons office does a monthly support group and there is always a huge turnout. As for the nutrition classes his NUT is always available to us but there are no organized meetings like you are going too. I think I need to schedule a private one on one with her to go over things since I am also 14 months out from surgery and my eating habits are changing.

Can't wait to hear what you learn at your meetings.
