Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.

Try sugar free popsicles. It feels like a treat, takes a little while to eat and at only 15 calories each you can have seveal if necessary with little impact.
Don't give up. Take one day at a time. :-)
And as far as struggling...I have been struggling badly for the past 4 days. I've been eating chocolate (actually bingeing on it, no stop) I stopped buying it but my girlfriend sent me some yester day and me being stressed out ate it not all of it but too m,uch of it.
Why don't you try this...write down like I said earlier. Weigh the risks, pros and cons on paper and then give it to the doctor and tell him it is safer to have the surgery than to get more and more heavy and suffer from it's effects on my body.
Please keep your head up. You are not alone. We are here for you.

I encourage you to try to get 30 grams of protein in first thing in the morning. It will help your body burn more calories during the day. Evening munchies are so tough!! I know Ive said it before, but Geneen Roths book Breaking free from Emotional Eating really helped me get a handle on it. The book isnt written for GBS patients, but I knew I had to do something to work on my emotional eating issues because, they operated on my stomach, not on my head! Another thing someone recommended to me was practicing eating like a GBS patient before my surgery. I practiced eating protein first at every meal, not drinking with meals, and mindful eating. All of that helped make the transition easier after surgery.
Hang in there! Keep fighting for your health!!

Along those lines... things we deal with... I want to share a funny with yall... One of the comments I overheard that made me so mad one time was well she's fat, dumb and happy... that's a popular misconception in my opinion... I told Maxine a therapist I saw for the psych eval and that I plan on working with through this process... I am fat... but I am far from dumb... and frankly... I've seldom been happy... Society does not accept fat people... Most of us have felt it... and it hurts... By the way... the little twerp that sent this zinger... I made his life miserable... GRRRRRRRRRRR
I am going on with the surgery and actually even though its going to be tough to wait... others of you have and I can do this. They have assured me that they see no problems with doing the surgery. They just want to have a complete work up before the surgery so they won't be hit with any surprises. Also I will probably have my surgery at a hospital that has equipment and medical staff to take over if there were any problems. I'm not afraid at this point... who knows my knees may start knocking together any minute... LOL but frankly... if I don't get this situation under control... the odds are real good I'm going on that final run sooner rather than later... I think a lot of us recognize that either sooner or later we're dealing with mortality because of our weight... so I'm so glad we're all here together taking care of business. Hugs Elissa
