Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
Question please? Where are you goal-wise? The reason I ask is many, many people here hit their goal, or a little below or above, and when they go into maintenance, their bodies do a "self correction" type of thing, usually up 10 or so lbs. I didn't, but I didn't get within 30 lbs of my goal.
Just wondering if you went lower than expected, or if your body will be "right" a couple of pounds heavier.
If not, feel free to ignore me. Just remembered hearing about this before.
If it's right for you to lose more weight, I'm sure you can do it. You've got a great attitude, and I'm glad you share your journey with us.
Hope the holidays are good to you and yours.
I don't know if this will help, but here is what my team gave me as nutrition guidelines:
1200 calories
40% protein, 30% fat, 30% carbs.
I get into trouble if the proportion of carb and protein switches (as it very easily can).
I keep a food diary, and that helps immensely which food choices. I can enter an option and see what it does to my numbers. If I don't like how it looks, I can delete it and try another option. It helps me a lot.
Glad you are taking charge of your life and your health. I know you can succeed in every respect.
Are you still getting in 70 + grams of protein a day? Avoiding empty calories? What is your body/fat ratio? Do you 'look' more toned? How do your clothes fit?
I have no doubt you will figure this out and prevail!!

I spent some serious time looking at my food journal, and I think I was just getting out of hand. When I upped my workouts, I was ravenous, which was to be expected, but once I adjusted to the workouts, I didn't readjust my eating more, and eating more turned into too many carbs.
I do eat a balanced diet, including complex carbs. I've lost 143 lbs eating around 100 grams a day... and 1500 kcals (ish) I am below my docs expectations in weight loss, but really do want to lose another 15 ish pounds,
I was ok with not being in a hurry to get there and was just more focused on getting fit and adding some muscle... But when my jeans started getting tighter I really freaked! I see so many people who gain 10, 15, 50... before they catch themselves, if they ever even do... And I so didn't want to be one of them. If my jeans are too tight, it is time to do something NOW... not when I have to go buy bigger ones! LOL!
As of this last Sunday, I have cleaned out the carbs... basically staying under 25. I was going to wait till the new year, but decided that was my old thinking talking :)
I am going to do this for two weeks, then reeval, and adjust as needed.
I do get in my protein. Now that I am lifting weights, I get in 100+ a day...
I work out LOTS and love it! I think I just have to find my new normal now that I'm doing this.
Thank you everyone!! As always, I can count on caring and thoughtful insight!!
P.S. Ed, think Lord of the Rings :) for Aragorn :)
