We did not get fat from chili, not at anytime of the day or night. Do not fight your body in the beginning, unless it is a ridiculous request.
The stress and guilt are much more damaging. Plan for hunger, real or perceived. Today I am over 1600 calories (presurg) because I ate chicken and couscous at 4 am last night. There was no shake..grrr.
In the past I could easily have eaten 1000 calories without sitting down or closing the refrig door.
With time, shape your eating behaviors with a specific goal behavior plan. Don't squabble with your brain and body over soy. Enjoy your chili.
BTW do you take any meds at bedtime that might spike your insulin?
I also had a problem with late night snacking. My dr's office has a strict 3 meals-a-day with no snacking rule, so I don't even allow myself to contemplate whether or not to eat outside those 3 meals. I just drink lots of water at night when I can't sleep.
I remember crying at about 2 weeks out because nothing tasted good. You are so fortunate that you can still enjoy food!

I knew you guys would come through.
I am sorry I forgot to put my last meal at 5 pm, which was the chili.
My calories have been sitting between 500-900 depending.
I can enjoy food although not with the same gusto as before.
It's also pretty hard to enjoy food fully .when you have to stretch out the meal until your food is ice cold.
For the record I am not a sweet eater and find any needs I have on this plan are easily filled by all the asparatime used to sweeten the pretein drinks etc.
I am all about the warm and salty..
I did not eat the chili because it seemed wrong.
However I tried to redirect by having a nice cup of tea.
When that didn't work I had a V8 1 shot.
This did work and I was able to go back to bed.
I am getting my protien in but I am still tired and sometimes dizzy.
Something is missing.
I will speak to my NUT about it on my one month appointment.
Lately I have been having a small snack at night like 12 medium shrimps or 4 pretzels but I am concerned about this as nightime eating was a huge downfall for me.
I would rather not eat at night at all but thats what my body seems to want to do.
I can't have the chili for breakfast because eating in the morning has become difficult so thats when I have my prtien shake.
Maybe it is as Jerry says
Maybe I should plan a snack, incorporate it into my daily menu and forget about it.
It might work as long as it is light.
.
I do not believe this spikes my blood sugar.
And ya I know soy chili didn.t make me fat but a lot of night gobbling sure did.: )
in the begining I ate every 4 or 5 hours and many times in the middle of the night. Try not and waste any (calories) on fluids. But FYI you didn't get fat from eating at night, you got fat from eating and drinking to many calories for to long.
Hang in there this will get way easier in time.

I am two and half weeks out from surgery and know in the morning my stomach just can't process the food. So, I do tend to eat more later in the day. In the evenings I just try to drink my fluids and that constant drinking seems to keep the hunger away. I also think that if you are getting dizzy perhaps you aren't getting enough water - so maybe you can kill two birds with one stone,
Good luck!
ps - guilt about eating never accomplished anything for any of us, so be easy on yourself.
love ya,
krissy
I am not over eating at present but I am worried about where this is all going.
I read here that many DS people just CAN'T eat.
Well I can.
Tonight I needed to get in some protein and take my supplements (with food) so I had the words smallest chili cheese omelet (actually a sliver of my friends)
Once again I am eating at night.
Incidentally the late night meal is always my third not my third plus.
Thanks for all these replies it really helps as it gives me a lot of different ideas to consider.
