That's how I'm starting to feel about my surgery. I posted over a week ago about my leg and its infections. I was "blessed" with a triple-whammy--cellulitis, MRSA, and cat scratch disease thanks to my cat! (anyone want a cat?) Anyway, it landed me in the hospital last week for five days, but at least now my leg has more of its normal coloring back and looks less like an overripe tomato with a peeling sunburn.
My GBS was supposed to be yesterday, but due to the infection of course it was postponed. Now they're saying December 11th, and this is where my personal rant/vent/dilemma comes in.
My insurance authorized this to be performed any time before December 21st. Time is starting to be of the essence here because, as a musician, December and the holidays in general are my busiest time of the year. I have too many gigs lined up that were confirmed long before I had the original date (11/2), and I'm wracking my brain trying to figure out a way to keep my gigs and still have the surgery.
My husband says to simply take the month off and find subs, but that's like asking a tax accountant to take the first two weeks of April off! There is a way around this and I wanted to pose this here and see what you all thought.
I'd like to have my surgeon and/or his surgery coordinator/head of the bariatric program write my insurance company and ask for an extension of the authorization to the end of the calendar year, explaining the circumstances with the leg infections. I am also going to ask for a surgery date between 12/26 and 12/31. It's asking a lot, I know, but it just might work.

As to your gigs, I think it would be worthwhile to spend some time lining up possible alternate musicians, just in case. That way, if you do have the earlier surgery date, you'll have the option of going with how you are feeling. Some people bounce back quickly from the surgery.
For me, I was tired. I needed a lot of rest, and I was grateful to have time off to rest as I needed.
