The good, the bad and the ugly:
The good: My lab work! My doc had ordered a blood test last week to see what my A1C looked like. Pre-surgery, it was 6.9. Last week it was 5.9! My cholesterol and blood pressure have lowered quite significantly, so much so that both the doc and the physician's assistant had to take my BP three times to make sure it was correct. As a resuly, I'm now off ALL my prescription meds except one! YIPPEE!!!!!!
More good: I bought a swimsuit in a size 16. It fits!
The bad: Me, because I ate pretzels over the weekend. My solution? I bagged them up and threw them away. Got back on track and feel MUCH better today.
The ugly: My new hobbies, or at least the results of them! I decided I needed to take up a new hobby that had nothing to do with eating, so I've taken up woodworking and knitting. My first woodworking project is a new chicken coop to replace the one we have. I'm working on it with my seventeen-y.o. daughter and we are laughing ourselves silly because it's a much bigger project than we'd anticipated, but we're excited because we're not wrecking it and it'll look like a miniature barn when we're done.
As for knitting, I am a lifelong crocheter and seamstress, so knitting couldn't be THAT hard, could it? I bought a book with step-by-step instructions for 200 stitch patterns ranging from so-easy-my-cat-could-do-it to ridiculously difficult. After working through about a dozen stitches I decided I was ready for a sweater. Well, I'm about fifty rows into my sweater, but so far it looks like something a puppy would have chewed up and spit out. I think I need more practice, but at least I'm enjoying the process so far!

I, too, am a knitter and crocheter. I find myself doing a lot more knitting now because crochet stresses my wrists more. You'll find LOADS of good how-to videos on YouTube for your knitting tutorials. And, do you know about ravelry? Knitting and crocheting patters and forums on just about anything. There also are Facebook groups for free ravelry patterys, crochet patterns and one called addicted to sock knitting. All fun and great sources of advice and inspiration. I have found knitting to be a great stress reliever for me since I have to avoid the kitchen when I'm stressing.
