Totally normal. You are about to not only have a major surgery, but a major life style change. Who wouldn't be anxious about that?

I remember feeling almost the same things you are describing. I just kept telling myself the benefits outweigh the risks. And oh how they have! 186lbs gone forever! Our heads sure seem to get in the way of things, and will continue to throughout your entire journey.

Hi, I had my surgery on April 21 and today I started my pure diet! I was so scared before surgery but everything went smoothly! I had not much pain after surgery and after 2 days I was at home by the third day home I start to cook for myself and even for family! don't worry at all! I feel so great in 2 weeks I lost 5 kilo! my nurse said basically first pounds are the water that we lose! any ways I feel so good and I love seeing my face in the mirror! no more puffiness! I was excited and nervous too, totally normal when facing major surgery. When I got to thinking about possible complications and such, I countered it with the complications and dangers of morbid obesity. We don't go into this lightly, we do it to save our lives. You'll do great.

I am right there with you!! My surgery is coming up May 11 and while I'm excited about it, I'm also getting pretty scared. I'm worried about my 12-yr-old daughter, what if something happens to me? Then again, when I tell people I'm having this done, they usually say something like "Oh my neighbor had a bypass!" or "My uncle/sister/brother/etc had one", NOBODY has said "Oh I know somebody who didn't make it", and even my surgeon said it's soooooo rare for complications if we just follow their instructions to a tee. So, with that in mind, I'm going to stay positive about this, realize that my fears are normal, and do it anyway! Just think, after the 27th you'll be able to come back on here and give advice to the next round of newbies :-)

I was excited too and I refused to entertain any negative thoughts about the surgery or any negative post surgery effects. I had no complications. I kept my mind focused on positive things, talked only with supportive people, came here and read only positive posts, and knew that after over 8 years of research and preparing that I was ready. From my first consultation I started acting as if I had already had my surgery. I started vitamins, protein, and water as well as chewing everything to mush. I took advantage of the time and did a system cleanse to prepare my body for what was to come. I did my mental and emotional work, and I had a clear image of what I was working for. I cleaned my house top to bottom, got extra bodywork, made sure I had everything I would need, and did special things for myself. The day I went in for surgery I had this incredible peace that was wonderful. Since I couldn't drink, I sucked on a Calms homeopathic tablet every hour or so while I waited for surgery which enhanced my calm and kept my mouth moist. The more ready you are mentally and emotionally the easier you will make it on yourself. The emotional and mental work is the biggest challenge in this journey, and it never stops!

Oh Yes! For me, the months, weeks, days and hours prior to surgery were filled with excitement and a tiny bit of fear. I had a few "come to Jesus" days in the following weeks...due to eating too fast and not chewing my food to mush. I had my surgery February 2014. I just saw a photo of myself taken on Mother's day 2014. I looked pretty good but wasn't even halfway through my journey to goal. I also saw a photo of myself taken a week ago. I've lost 140 pounds and I'm only 5 pounds away from my personal goal. What a joyful ride this has been and continues to be.. Take photos yourself throughout the journey!
I've only had one thoughtless remark (to my face, anyway) in this process. After posting a recent photo of myself on FB...an idiot aunt said: "You're so skinny. Do you have cancer?" What a thoughtless remark, especially on a public forum! I had no idea how to respond....so I didn't.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I think it just the waiting. Invirginia best of luck with your surgery you will have to keep us posted on how you do. I guess if I was not nervous or scared I would not be normal.
