I am 5'4" and was at my heaviest of 250 lbs in December. I went to Kaiser's orientation and started their 12 weeks of Option classes March 9th and graduate this Wednesday. I have lost 35 lbs and am down to 215 lbs by changing my eating habits, using protein shakes and walking a lot more. I have always been obese. At one point in my life, I did a starvation and exercise diet and then got hooked on methamphetamines. At my lowest, I was 135 lbs but that meant I could not eat anything. I kicked that habit over 15 years ago. Now I am questioning whether to follow through on WLS or if I should just try to continue to eat healthy and increase my exercise. If I can maintain my current healthy living, I should be down to 150 lbs by the end of March 2012. Other than a fatty liver, I do not have any co-morbidities. I have six months to decide if I will have surgery--after that, it won't be an option unless I get back up to 240-250 lbs. Knowing Obama care is out there is another concern as I feel like this will be my only chance to do WLS. What are your thoughts?
