I am 6 weeks post-op RNY and I'm wondering if I'm taking my supplements correctly. I have been reading different things about schedules, doses and now I'm confused. I want to avoid any deficiencies so I was wondering if any of you can tell me what is the correct way to take them. I am not concerned with doses as I am taking bariatric supplements so they are the correct dose for our needs. I currently taking my 2 multi-vitamin and 2 calcium with vitamin D chewables together first thing in the morning. A few hours after I take my chewable iron with vitamin C. And somewhere throughout the day I'll take a B-50 tablet.

How do you spread them out throughout the day?

As long as you take calcium and iron separately I don't think it matters. That's just me

That's what I thought. I read calcium and vitamins shouldn't be taken together but I'm glad it's not the case.

I take so many things that I use a little pill case that I got at the Vitamin Shoppe. It has five sections, and I use them to spread things out throughout the day. I break my multi vitamin and vitamin C doses into two sections, one for morning, one for evening. At mid dat, I take the iron and biotin. First thing in the a.m., I take my prescription meds as well as OsteoBiflex (old knees) and Prevagen (brain health). I take my thyroid med at night with another OsteoBiflex and a flax seed oil capsule. I take Ultimate Iron on Wednesdays and Saturdays at mid-day. On Sundays, I take a B-12 sublingual tablet.

I like using the case. I set it up first thing in the morning. That way, I don't have to remember whether I took something or not--I just check my case.

The only time calcium and multivitamins shouldn't be taken together is if the multivitamin contains iron, which my bariatric formula doesn't. Yep just the two hour separation, get them all in by the end of the day, and you should be good to go! :-)
