strictures common?

Since I have been having this painful stuff they are doing the scope on the fourteenth of Sept. .First day they could get me in. Do they also look for other things? This stricture stuff must be common, I see it all the time on here. Do they look for ulcers and stuff too.???

I don't think strictures are all that rare. I had one at around the 4-5 weeks post-op time. Having the endoscopy was honestly no big deal. And once it was fixed I felt so much better. I think they do look for anything that might be wrong while they are looking around.

I had one about 8 weeks out, but it minor. If it gets to the point where you are throwing up or can't eat, I would go to the ER/hospital and they will do one there. I thought I was just dehydrated, but it ended up a small stricture was starting to form, they got it before it was an issue. I haven't had an issue since. My Dr also warned me against doing an 'all liquid' day or a few of those in a row, as this can help the stricture get worse, now I had to be on all liquids for a week for healing afterwards, but otherwise he told me no all liquid days unless directed by him.

I don't think the majority of GBS patients get strictures, but they are still considered a common complication. I didn't have the problem but several people in my F2F support group did. Based on what I've read, they do look for ulcers, too.

Hope they figure out what's wrong and can fix it!!

Strictures are not normal but common, if that makes sense. I personally had to have my stricture stretched 7 times! :) Almost every 2 weeks from about March 15 to June 15 My surgery was Feb 17th. I had my first stretching at about a month.
The EGDs are NO big deal. I have had 7 AND happen to work for 11 colon/rectal/upper GI docs! I see EGDs performed all the tie. No worries sweet pea!
