Stressing!!

I am starting to stress over my surgery date. I spoke with the nurse at my surgeron's office who gets you approved this morning. She told me she can't submit me for insurance approval until I get a letter from one of the "sub specialists" saying I am approved for surgery. I also saw my pulmonary doctor yesterday and he said he would send a letter stating that I am ok for surgery but he also is sending me for a sleep study, which is NOT required for insurance approval so I am hoping that won't hold things up. They are supposed to call me sometime today to let me know they got me pre-certified for the sleep study and I can go ahead and make an appointment. I also need to stay on top of the GI doctor about my endoscopy to see if I tested positive for h-pylori so I can get on antibiotics. The nruse told me that I really need to stay on top of all of these tests and doctors and getting them to send the letters of approval or they will have to move my date! I do not want them to move my date because of some doctor not sending paperwork on time. I am going to call their offices every day if I need to! When she said move my surgery date, my heart dropped!! Ugghh, It seemed like everything was moving at a snails pace now it is all hurry hurry hurry!!

So I called my pulmonary to see if they got me pre cert'd for my sleep study. THey were like we called your insurance and you don't need one, what the heck was no one going to call me and tell me I could go ahead and schedule the appointment??? So I called the sleep center and they tell me the first appointment they have is September 2nd, my surgery is scheduled for September 12th not going to work. So they try another one of their centers and they had 8/21 not great but a little better. Then she says they have a cancellation for Monday night of course it is at the center that is the farthest away from my house. Plus my daughter works Monday night and I am her ride home. So I reluctantly took the 8/21 appointment . I called my mother to vent and she is going to pick up my daughter from work on Monday night so I can take that appointment. Yeah, mom's are great!!

The sooner the better, because if you do have sleep apnea you may need a second sleep study to fit you with a cpap machine. Good luck to you!

My doctor ordered a split study test. I will be monitored the first half of the night and if they see that I do have sleep apnea they will fit me with a c-pap machine during the second half of the night, at least that was my understaning of what they are going to do.

Almost everything is done I am just waiting on these doctors to get their reports into the surgeon! I can see I will be on the phone with every doctor in the next week checking in on them to see if they sent their reports/test results.

The waiting is so frustrating!! Just a warning...even if they do a split study, you still have go make another appointment to review the results and sometimes a third to actually get your c-pap (some places can get you the c-pap at the second visit).

As I said, the waiting is frustrating!!

i had split study and then i had appointment to discuss and then i had to do what they call a titration study. then came my mask. But hopefully you will be cleared and going without being told you have sleep apnea.

Prior to my surgery, a doctor suggested I have a sleep study done. I didn't, and the issues that caused her to make the suggestion have vanished since the surgery. I hope that you don't have sleep apnea, but if you do, I hope the weight loss relieves it for you.

I was told tha the most important part is that if I do turn out to have sleep apnea that they can get the machine readings for anesthesia. I am doing all that I can to make things fall into place and I will stay on top of my appointments and there is nothing more I can do. It will all work out (I hope!)

Wow, this kind of clusterfreak sounds familiar :) I, too, had to wrangle, repeatedly call, and even go into an office in person and stand over someone while she faxed my results to the right number in order to get everything together in the right place so they could schedule me (my doctor wouldn't set a date until everything was cleared). Stay on it! I had to keep reminding myself that it wasn't the fault of the person I was speaking to that someone else dropped the ball.

I was diagnosed with hypnoapena...I had 2 sleep studies, results and machine within 2 weeks top. Maybe less. I took the machine with me to the hospital as told . No one used it. I came home and didnt use it as its an auto adjust and it would make my stomach sore by morning. I wasnt going to add insult to injury after surgery. Finally saw the neurologist and I dont need the machine at all. The weight loss took care of the issue. Now I have to go in for another sleep study to have it removed as a Health condition in case down the road we change insurances etc and I have a precondition...I dont want this on my health records...Best wishes hun, I hope it turns out well for you!

On one hand it will all happen when it is supposed to. On the other hand taking action by calling is wonderful!

I understand that frustration. I thought we had decided I didn't need a test and then found out they were holding my package until I could get the last test done. It delayed me weeks. Alas, it turned out I had it done at the "right" time so all's good. Most important, you are moving forward and it WILL happen.
