Gastric Bypass Surgery Support Group
Gastric bypass (GBP) is any of a group of similar operative procedures used to treat morbid obesity, a condition which arises from severe accumulation of excess weight in the form of fatty tissue, and the health problems ("co-morbidities") which result. If you are considering gastric bypass or have had it, join the community where we share our experiences and find support.
Keep following the program, try changing things up, maybe it will start back up. Remember how far you've come and how much healthier you are and feel!
You can break the stall. You just need to figure out what your body is going to respond to. Good luck!
My surgeon said it is possible to reach a healthy goal even if its lower than that set by them with the whatever % of excess wt gone.... we just will have to work hard for it :)
Having held fast for 6 months is a good thing too! Means you got this far and can keep it off! No slipping back pound by pound!!
The basic formula for loss after WLS - Protein (70+ grams a day), water (whatever is recommended by your doctor), move (as much as you can each day), sleep (8 hours or more)...and take your vitamins!!
Other tips I followed:
Get 30 grams of protein as soon as you get up (I do a double scoop protein shake). Eat 3 - 20 minute, mindful meals a day (don't do anything but eat....no reading, watching TV, computer, talking on the phone, etc). Don't drink when you eat (or 30 minutes before/after). Other than 1 protein shake a day, don't drink your calories. Eat t least 3 bites of dense protein for 1 bite of anything else. Avoid "white" carbs (rice, pasta, bread, crackers, flour, sugar, potatoes, etc). If you can't just eat 3 meals a day, add 2 planned, high protein "snacks" but follow mindful eating and no drinking rules with them, too.
There is some debate in the WLS community regarding carbs. Personally, I avoided them until I hit my target weight. I didn't want to do anything to slow the weight loss process.
Here's the reason why I avoided them:
Your body needs 2 kinds of fuel - carbs and protein. When you don't get enough of either of them, your body gets what it needs from your "storage" ...if you don't give it the carbs it needs, it will burn fat instead. If you don't give it the protein it needs, it will burn your muscles instead.
I
wanted to lose as quickly as possible and I didn't want to lose all my muscle. I don't have room in my pouch for much more than the 70 grams of protein.
JJ
I am trying to get in to meet with my NUT and see if she has any suggestions. But JJ's advice is a reallty good start. I think as time goes on it easy to slip into old habits and maybe not be as mindful of what you are eating or how you are eating.
