Can, as in able to, or as in allowable in post-op diet? Only flat soda is on my post-op nutritional guide, and I am 4 months out. Not even worth opening the can for that. I know GBS folks several years out who enjoy an occasional diet soda.

highly not recommended primarily because the carbonation puffs up the pouch, the acid in the soda messes with lining of pouch and have you seen how much sugar and carbs are in soda??? and if u say u will drink diet soda, have you ever noticed that the ppl who drink diet soda are all over weight??? SODA IS EVILLLLL!!! lol

Nope, can't physically do it. I haven't tried an actual soda, but did try a sip of carbinated water one time, and ouch, uncomfortable. Made me feel like I was blown up like a balloon and the pressure was trying to come back up, but wouldn't. Didn't like that so I won't be trying anything with carbination anytime soon. So that's sodas, sparkling waters, champagne, beer, etc.

On the other hand, I do know some people at my hospital support group that show up with a diet pepsi. But they are 2-3 years out.

Soda is definitely a no no. Before I had the surgery I committed to only drinking water for the insurance company(used to drink 128 oz's+ Mtn. Dew a day). I drank water only from November '06 to February '07 and lost 50 lbs.

Since the surgery it's just ice water... 3 years out and cold water is what I crave all the time... occasionally I yearn for a Mtn. Dew but only when I hear a can open and hear the fizz... it's all mental.

Pre or Post Op, soda is just bad for you.

Every single person I know who continued to drink soda after GBS regained most of their weight. No kidding, it just seems like a universal theme. Maybe like Callie said, 2-3 years out. But I've worked too hard to get where I am, and no soda will temp me to start down that bad road again.

I've never been a big soda drinker, maybe once a week if that. But I have been having a craving for an orange soda that I am dreaming about it.

I had to drink Diet Ginger Ale because I couldn't hold anything down, but now that I am feeling much better I am throwing the rest of the soda out! I constantly felt bloated all the time and it is a very uncomfortable feeling. I really did not have a problem with it going down, it just felt horrible once it hit my stomach. Don't even try it!

i havent had surgery yet but all i drink now and ever have is unsweetened iced tea or water i hate carbonation all together unless its in the very rare times i have a beer. but i doubt ill wanna try flat beer yick

I wasn't a big soda fan pre-surgery... but I did love my carbinated flavored water! Got hooked on those 15 years ago when our kiddos were on the local swim team. Sodas were to syrupy for them and plain water, well, they had enough water in the pool! Found the flavored water and as I said, we were hooked.
I did take a small sip of hubby's diet DP, but even the itty, bitty, baby sip, I could feel the pressure!

I have accidently taken a drink out of the wrong cup that was soda. I spit out what I could. I felt my pouch expand and I was sick for over 3 hours. I just to be a diet coke addict. I have not had one in over 8 months now. I figure why should I start drinking diet coke again, I have live without it this long.

Almost 3 years out and NO soda for me. The effects are not worth all the trouble it causes. Water, coffee, or tea for me.

In all honesty, I have had a couple of small sips of Pepsi from my husband. I have decided that it isn't worth it though. I didn't have any reactions but I'm not willing to push the issue.
I made the committment to myself to stay as on track as possible in order not to go back to old habits. Habits that got me to needing Gastric Bypass Surgery in the first place.
No judgements here, just sharing what I choose to do and, not do.

No sodas. If you take a ballon and put it over a bottle of water, bottle of soda and a bottle of flat soda give them just a gentle shake and you will see what is does to your pouch. My Dr. says absolutely no sodas. Also the diest drinks stimulate your appetit.
