If the doctor says not to do something, don't do it! Unless you like having major surgery for nothing or you just like pain. You don't want to be one of those people who do not have good results from GBS.

No soda! No carbonation! It can streach your pouch and I hear is very uncomfortable. However, some people do....like everything else-Personal choice

Definately a foe. My main reason for avoiding soda is not so much because I'm not supposed to, my main reason is because its not enjoyable to me at all anymore. It tastes funny to me now. The bubbles and carbination are more than uncomfortable. It almost makes me feel sick and like I have a burp that won't come out, because the bubbles are sitting in my intestines since they just pass right through the pouch. So when someone mentions soda, diet or not, it just makes me say yuck. I have many other much better choices than that yucky old soda.

Certainly the choice is yours but, why do it if it may ruin your success in the long run... ?

If I had to give up my champagne, you can give up sodas!

I WOULDN'T DO IT, I DRINK CRYSTAL LIGHT LIKE CRAZY THEY HAVE SO MANY DIFFERENT FLAVORS I NEVER THINK ABOUT SODA ANYMORE.

it is what took me forever to get with the program!!!
My bariatric team frowns on them in any form.
Now that I don't drink them, I can't drink the, Every time i have tried, I have had to literally spit it out. you get to where you just cannot drink it

I will admit that I do have soda on occasion. Maybe once a week or so I will have a nice cold can of mountain dew. Before surgery I used to have 3 or 4 20oz bottles of that a day and now it's a take it or leave it thing, and I do enjoy it in moderation. I'm thrilled to have mostly eliminated it from my diet. I personally don't have discomfort issues with it, but I drink it slowly from a straw. I know I'm supposed to stay away from it but I do take certain liberties if I know I can keep it in moderation.

I think of it this way, after all the work, research, money, planning and intake of healthy foods- why would I eat,/drink something that has absolutly not one good tsp of goodness to it! Stick with the healthy, nutritous liquids, you'll reap all the benifits and not the soda companys!

some folks can tolerate it many months out. In the short term, the only way you will be able to have it is if you let it go flat before you drink it. Kinda takes all the fun out of it. I went off of it altogether before surgery. Man, do I have alot more money in my pockey without the soda habit!

It is good to hear maybe in the future. I am a diabetic and already don't drink regular soday and hate diet soda. My passion though is club soda. I love club soda with a twist of lime. I will realllllly miss that.

As with tekwriter I like club soda but did not drink it before surgery.
I have it when I go out with my friend for a drink with gin a twist of lime and a packet of equal.
It does not bother me at all and I do not drink soda otherwise.
I had to find something low cal and SF when I am out and this was what I came up with.
Needless to say this is not an everyday occurance.
Everything in moderation and also as long as it is not the beginning of getting you back into a bad habit.

i was a diet dr pepper drinker. was mervous about giving it up..but have not missed it at all. my sister had gbs nearly 5 years out..she never got to goal even though she was happy with her loss...has gained back 35 lbs thru snacking, drinking while she eats, all she drinks is soda...most diet, some not. in other words all the stuff we are not supposed to do. so my advice is...dont! those habits are easy to get back into and hard to break!

FOE I tryed it after 6 months out and it made me so sick no more for me I've come to far and there is so many other drinks out there that we can have that are good for you. Be Strong and keep losing!!

I haven't had my surgery yet but I can tell you what was advised to me by my nutritionist and it is definitely a "foe". The carbonation in these drinks can make you feel bloated and produce hurtful gas after the surgery. It can also expand your pouch. Diet soda contains aspartame which can be addicting. It will make you crave simple sugars. I know I personally won't drink it (I haven't in 4 months- -I feel like I should earn a medal...lol) because I know once I do it is very addicting. No sense in taking 2 steps forward and 4 steps back.

I don't do sodas at all. I stopped them prior to surgery and have not tried them since. my surgery was Dec.15. My husband would always order water prior to my surgery but seems since my surgery he always orders soda when we go out. At first it bothered me a little but then I realized.....we don"t have them in the house anymore and that"s the only time he drinks them now. It was me that needed the surgery and not him sooooo I guess I am lucky that he lets me get by with not having them in our house.
