Severe Pain

When my doc took out my gallbladder, he said he had to do some more stitching by the RNY site. I was in a lot of pain all across my abdomen for about a week. Now, it's all gone except for the spot near the RNY. I swear it is so painful it makes me yell out loud if I move the wrong way. It feels like a fresh, deep stab wound. The nurse thinks it is inflamed. Even the demerol is not taking the edge off. What do I do? Living on demerol for much longer won't work. The only thing I know that helps when something is inflamed is motrin, which I can't take. Does anyone have any ideas?

Scrappy, demerol should be at least denting the pain. If not, please let your dr know asap. Don't be afraid to take the demerol... but also be sure to make certain there is nothing more serious going on. Infections are painful, no doubt but I would think things should be clearing up by this time.

Thanks, Andy & Jerry. I am really baffled by this pain. It feels like I just had surgery and am not taking pain killers. I can't reach the nurse on call, either. I'll keep trying to get a hold of her.

I agree with Andy and Jerry. Do keep trying to reach someone to get checked. Or if you are unsuccessful, and it worsens, please go to an ER. You don't want to delay if something is really festering in there!(Not to scare you, or anything!)
