Scary thinking

Day 13 - I am thinking about eating a lot. Got home from a day out and about I had my beans and cheese. After that I wanted my fat and sugar free pudding, then I wanted more of something, anything. I had spaced the food 30 minutes apart.

I realized this was old thinking and stopped.

This was disconcerting.

Welcome to life! Congratulations for recognizing it and stopping. Becoming conscious doesn't happen overnight and it never ends. We will always have to make choices. I wonder what triggered this. Did you take water and snacks with you? I have learned to never go anywhere without water and protein snacks. Do you add protein to your pudding? I love protein pudding!

Thank you. I travel with water and protein drinks but I left my protein drink at the cabin I was driving home from. My brain screamed I'm starving.

I haven't heard of adding protein to pudding. However I ordered gene pro which would be perfect for that.

Robyn...I'm not sure if that old eating mentality ever goes away. I'm more than 2 years post-op and I still have days when hunger (or the desire to eat) will grip me. It's hard to shake it off. At least you recognize it. Now you have to do some mind work to find out what triggers it and to know the difference between head hunger and real hunger.
You're doing great just keep it up and stay healthy!

I'm almost a year out from surgery, August 25. and I too have times when I feel hungry. I am trying to discern between physical or mental hunger. When I eat sugar free pudding I add some type of nuts in it, usually almonds or walnuts. yummy.

During my first weeks PO, I also thought of eating (mostly chewing!) a lot. I think it was a mental habit and it kicked in because my behavior was so different from the Pre-Op days. It did become easier for me as my diet expanded and I had to focus on re-learning how to eat and what I could tolerate and what I couldn't. Hang in there. :)
